Watch: The Polyphonic Spree Drop Music Video For "She’s A Rainbow"

Texas psych pop rock supergroup The Polyphonic Spree have dropped the video for their cover version of The Rolling Stones classic "She’s A Rainbow".

“She’s A Rainbow” has been a staple of The Polyphonic Spree’s live set for years, but DeLaughter’s history with The Rolling Stones goes all the way back to high school, as he told Ultimate Classic Rock today. “I was a freshman in high school. Me and another kid, Kevin Swanson, had a band, and all we played were Stones songs,” he explains. “We got the opportunity to play in front of the lunch crowd, outside in the commons area.  We started the show with ‘Jumping Jack Flash.’ It was all going great. Then we were blazing through ‘Brown Sugar’ when some kid unplugged the power to the PA, and everything went silent, which in turn, turned my failing friend into a cussing dad who just hit his thumb with a hammer. I quickly realized it was all over, no more show, total let down. That was the last time I ever played The Rolling Stones live, until we played ‘She’s A Rainbow.’”

The Polyphonic Spree Announce Surprise Covers Album ‘Afflatus’, Stream "Don't Change"

Texas-based psych pop rock supergroup The Polyphonic Spree have announced the release of a new surprise covers album 'Afflatus'.

This is the band’s first full-length album since 2014’s ‘Psychphonic’, it was recorded live in one evening at the band’s home studio, just before the 2020 lockdown, and features covers of INXS, Daniel Johnston, Rush, Barry Manilow, The Rolling Stones, ABBA, and more. Having just celebrated their 20th anniversary as a band, The Polyphonic Spree are currently at work on a new full-length album of original material, slated for release this fall.

“It was inevitable that the Spree would end up doing this,” said frontman Tim DeLaughter. “We were asked to play a covers show at The Kessler Theater in Dallas and were ready to go, but with the shutdowns starting to happen around the country, we made the last-minute call not to perform. We had all been together for weeks rehearsing, so we decided to get the band together at our home studio and record the entire show live in one take, just to capture it. We knew it was probably going to be the last time we saw each other for a long time, and the next day, everything started to close.”

The record opens with “Don’t Change” by INXS, which the band first performed on their 2010 tour of Australia. “We wanted to pay homage to one of their country’s great artists,” DeLaughter adds, “but it’s also just an awesome song. I love its forward moving, almost gliding feel.”

About the song  lead singer Tim DeLaughter comments: "This song was written for my daughter Stella, a coming of age if you will. It's not easy growing up. It's not easy getting older either. Sometimes it's nice to hear some encouragement from an outside perspective. I think that's what I was going for."

Texas-based psych pop rock supergroup The Polyphonic Spree have revealed the video for "Blurry Up The Lines", another cut taken from their latest album Yes, It's True, out via Good Records.

This is the sixth track off of the album to get the visual treatment following "You Don't Know Me" and "Let Them Be", "Popular By Design", "Raise Your Head", and most recently "What Would You Do?".

About the video, lead singer Tim DeLaughter said: "'Blurry' has the power to 'blurry up the lines'. It will empower you to breakaway from the line and become what you desire. This is a gift from me to you. Please handle with care".

Watch: The Polyphonic Spree Share New Video For "Raise Your Head" (ft. The Umbilical Brothers)

The Polyphonic Spree have shared the video for "Raise Your Head", featuring Australian comic duo The Umbilical Brothers.

The song is part of our current playlist, and is taken from the band's recently released fourth studio album Yes, It's True, out via Good Records.

This is the fourth track from the album to get the video treatment, previously the band have already unveiled the clips for "You Don't Know Me", "Let Them Be" and most recently for "Popular By Design". 

The video was directed by Alex Gabbott, who explains: "I set out to make a fun music video, and was fortunate enough to have the right ingredients. The Polyphonic Spree, a 22-piece band dancing around on stage...are fun. The Umbilical Brothers, a duo of Australian physical comedians...are fun. A warehouse full of physical gags done (mostly) for real...is VERY fun. It was also VERY hard to make, but I know that the raw amount of fun we got on screen, made all the long nights picking up table tennis balls worth it. And table tennis balls...are also fun."

The Polyphonic Spree have shared the video for their latest single "Popular by Design", off their recently released fourth studio album Yes, It's True, out via Good Records. The song is part of our current playlist. 

Previously the indie psych pop rock supergroup, already unveiled the clips for "You Don't Know Me" and "Let Them Be". 

The animated video, directed by Abandon Building, presents a sort of sci-fi origin story for the frontman of the candy-colored cloak-wearing choir, and depicts DeLaughter's transformation from a globulous conveyor-belt excretion into a happy-looking all-white clone before morphing into his more familiar form in an intergalactic classroom.

Watch: The Polyphonic Spree Premiere "Let Them Be" Music Video

Indie psych pop rock supergroup The Polyphonic Spree have shared the video for "Let Them Be", another cut from their recently released fourth studio album Yes, It's True, out via Good Records.

Just a few days ago, the band revealed the video for the album's first single "You Don't Know Me" and now their sharing the clip for "Let them Be". Both tracks are part of our current playlist.

About the song, band founder Tim DeLaughter says: "Let Them Be is a song I created from looking at images of Ernest Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea while working on some beats via Garage Band a few days before the recording session to finish the new album. I basically wrote the music and lyrics for it right there and saved most of it for the final recording, including the vocals."

The video was directed by Ben Rowe, who explains: "This is a narrative of conscious devolution. Our hero moves against the grain to return to origin rather than participate in civilized institutions. I would say that it's a video in defense of taking a day and staying in bed. Sometimes."

The Polyphonic Spree Announce New Album "Yes, It's True"

The Polyphonic Spree have announced details of their new album "Yes, It's True", out on the band's own Good Records Recording label via Cherry Red.

According to the press release the album is described as 'featuring pop songs focusing more on the melodies and rhythm' and will be out on 5th August.

Produced by the band's Tim DeLaughter and Julie Doyle under their guise as 'The Speekers' with Eric Drew Feldman (Captain Beefheart, PJ Harvey) and additional production and mix from Tim Palmer (U2, Pearl Jam). 

A single from the album "You Don't Know Me" will be released on July 29th. 

They'll play Camp Bestival in Dorset on 4th August, London's Village Underground on 6th August and Bestival on 7th September.
