The Wants Announce Debut LP 'Container', Stream "The Motor"

New York art-pop trio The Wants (featuring Bodega members Madison Velding-VanDam and Heather Elle) have announced the release of their debut studio album 'Container'.

Named after the shipping container which houses their DIY studio, the album will be out on March 13th and "is a meticulously self-produced art pop record, combining elements of post-punk, synth pop, and minimal techno.” Pre-order your copy here.

It includes their previously released song "Fear My Society" and their new single "The Motor". The Wants' Madison Velding-VanDam explains that lyrically it draws influence from the introduction of Lost Highway by David Lynch.

"In it, racing pavement reveals only level white dotted lines shrouded in darkness as David Bowie croons his sinister, 90s industrial art-rock masterpiece, 'I’m Deranged'."

"Taking elements from this, alongside a general feeling of unstoppable locomotion, we arrived at something that captures a mood somewhere between Cybotron's 'Cosmic Cars', Kraftwerk's 'Autobahn', and Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer'."

New York art-pop trio The Wants (featuring Bodega members Madison Velding-VanDam and Heather Elle) have aired the video for their new single "Fear My Society".

About the song, vocalist and guitarist Madison Velding-VanDam comments: "’Fear My Society’ is a song that has gone through multiple genre shifts and moods until it finally clicked this past year. In one sense, the lyrics couldn’t be more straightforward — a reflection of the always-shifting (though recently seismically so) political, economic, and technological atmosphere of the United States.”

"But I didn’t write the song in reaction to this. I was reflecting on the pressures I put on myself to achieve — “will you love me if I’m a failure?” is an honest concern of mine, a universal and primal concern that spans generations and even species. I’m interested in always pushing a step further towards what scares me.”
