New Entry: Roxy Girls Reveal New Single "Sister Fatima"

Sunderland post punk/art punk 4-piece Roxy Girls have revealed  their new single "Sister Fatima".

The song,  written in homage to their late dearly beloved Hamster "Fatty",  is taken from their new EP ‘Roxy Girls Are In The Drink’, which will be out on 27th August via Moshi Moshi Records. Get it here.

Influenced in part by albums like XTC’s “Drums and Wires”, the EP sees the band build on their unique and idiosyncratic take on the post-punk format, with crisp polyrhythmic guitar lines that interweave with one another, whilst placing more emphasis on the dynamics led by the drums and bass. It still conveys the same breathless intensity that Roxy Girls have been lauded for in the past, but not at the expense of the band moving towards warmer, more melodically driven songwriting.

Speaking about it frontman Tom Hawick says: “months of mindless swiping culminate in the odd date. Some are an awkward waste of time and some result in two years of not being able to decide what to have for tea. I’m glad I didn’t pay for Tinder gold.”

New Entry: Roxy Girls Return With New Single "Dirtier"

Sunderland post punk/art punk 4-piece Roxy Girls have returned with  their frenetic new single "Dirtier".

The song is taken from their new EP ‘A Wealth Of Information’, which is due out 5th June 2020 via Moshi Moshi Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about the new EP, Tom Hawick (frontman) says, “A progression in musicianship and technicality, A Wealth Of Information takes A Poverty Of Attention and flips it on its head. Focusing on the tropes of 21st century living and the mundanity that comes with it, these songs focus on themes that have, in one way or another, affected each mortal modern human life.”

About the new single, the band says, “some things are better left unsaid to avoid the clean-up operation needed to right their wrongs. In this instance they weren’t left unsaid, so expression through song was obligatory - I thought the use of dirty in 3 different languages was good for emphasis... The music was written during the small hours in the basement of Pop Recs Ltd, Sunderland and the words shortly before an Uber trip to a soul night in Leeds.”

UPDATE 03/06/2019: "Trials and Tribulations" is our new Single of the Week!

Recorded with David Brewis of Field Music their new record sees the band expand on previous material, stripping down the post-punk format and remodelling it for current generation. Whilst their vernacular might make The Futureheads an easy (albeit apt) comparison, there is an added breathless intensity and intricacy to their instrumentation that calls to mind the likes of Omni or Gang of Four.
