New Entry: Weird Dreams Returns With New Single "The Ladder"

Weird Dreams, our BOTM in April 2012, and now the solo project of frontman Doran Edwards, has returned with a brand new single called "The Ladder".

About the return of Weird Dreams and the new single, Doran Edwards explains: "It's been a long and short four years. Weird Dreams never stopped for me, it just became private. The songwriting was a near constant."

"There's more music to share soon, but starting with 'The Ladder' now feels right, as it was the first song of real difference, and remained unfinished for a few years while I obsessed over an image that I began to pursue as sound on the last Weird Dreams song before this one ('House of Secrets') - the reflections of water on a swimming pool ceiling at night.

"For reasons that are still unclear, this imagined image of light and water moved me in a desperate time, distracting from what felt like the rest of the world falling away."

BOTM April 2012 - WEIRD DREAMS

Weird Dreams are an East London's psych-pop band. Comprising Doran, Craig Bowers, Jon Rexter Crawford and William Riley, Weird Dreams formed when Doran and Craig met working in a vintage clothes shop, where talk frequently turned to '50s pop, '60s girl groups and – naturally – David Lynch movies.

The band's name is taken from Doran's propensity for real-life weird dreams. "Since I can remember I've always had incredibly vivid dreams, both good and bad," says the frontman. "They've always felt like an important part of my life."

Following feverish response for their two EPs and recent single 'Holding Nails', Weird Dreams are set to release their brilliant debut album Choreography, on Tough Love.

Influenced by both the Beach Boys and the films of David Lynch, Weird Dreams draw equally on the intricate harmonies of the former and the latter’s penchant for twisted suburban ennui. "The way David Lynch pushes reality to a point where it feels uncomfortable, his obsession with 1950s culture, his stream of consciousness approach to working", says frontman Doran Edwards. "Weird Dreams is a bittersweet pop band with twists."

"I love how idealistic and overly gushy '50s doo wop and '60s girl groups were, but I wanted to produce an even more dreamy-sounding version with lyrics that could be quite dark and resentful", says Doran. True to that vision, tracks such as 'Little Girl' and 'Hurt So Bad' speak of unusual relationships, while album centerpiece "Suburban Coated Creatures" is a personal unraveling of difficult teenage years dealing with small town life.

**Weird Dreams reached the TOP 20 on Kool Rock Radio's Best New Bands of 2011 list. Their single 'Faceless' peaked at #19 on our Best Tracks 2011 chart, and 'Holding Nails' peaked at #110.
