Karen O Announces Debut Album 'Crush Songs'

Karen O has announced that she will release her debut solo album titled 'Crush Songs' later this year.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman has signed to Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas' very own Cult Records, and will release Crush Songs on September 5 via Kobalt Label Services.

"So excited, lucky and proud to be involved with such a classic album," said Casablancas. "I just wanna listen to it all day. Karen is an all-time great."

"When I was 27 I crushed a lot. I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again. These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours." Karen O added.

A statement reads: "Recorded in 2006 and 2007, the record is an intimate collection of lo-fi, bedroom recordings in the vein of Karen’s Oscar-nominated 'The Moon Song'."

Pre-order your copy of the album here.

Watch: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Reveal "Despair" Music Video

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have unveiled the video for their new single "Despair", taken from their latest album 'Mosquito' released back in April via Interscope.

It is the first-ever video filmed atop the Empire State Building, and was directed by Patrick Daughters. Watch it below.

About the video, Karen O said: "I felt like I could give as personal a performance because of our history together. It was important to us that it felt intimate despite being filmed at one of NYC’s most famous landmarks and an international cultural icon. It was my first-ever trip up to the top of the ESB, top of the world, we were up there from 3am to sunrise, I’m guessing very few get to see that view from up there at those hours."

"I gotta say I had a ‘the impossible is possible’ moment up there with Nick and Brian. If someone would have sat us down at the Mars Bar years back and told us that we’d be performing our music on the top of the Empire State Building one day, we probably would have thought that’s the stuff that dreams are made of, not us, no way."

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Return With New Album 'Mosquito', Reveal Cover Art

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have announced more details of their fourth studio album "Mosquito", which is scheduled for April 16th via Interscope Records.

The album was recorded in New York alongside TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, who previously helmed 2009′s It’s Blitz!. LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy also produced a track (!), which features a guest spot from Dr. Octagon (aka Kool Keith).

Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O words on the recording process: "We have this little shitty studio downtown [in New York] that belongs to us, so we wrote songs and recorded demos whenever we felt inspired; it was kind of like how we did Fever to Tell and our first demo. And emotionally, it’s been a rollercoaster– being back in New York is intense for me. I’ve gone through an identity crisis. It’s been very emotionally intense for Nick, too. He was going through a break-up while we were making the album. It was just all kind of down."
