Daft Punk have unveiled a new 90-second teaser video in which the Robots unpackage their new album 'Random Access Memories' and put the needle to the vinyl. Plus, listen a few seconds of the opening track "Give Life Back to Music".

Daft Punk: "Computers are making a lot of dance records starting to sound the same"

In recent interviews, french electronic music duo Daft Punk have discussed their new album, saying they hope to humanise dance music with Random Access Memories.

"This album is about technology going towards humanity, in a world where humanity is going towards technology. We tried to capture robotic emotions with music, replacing this time our electronic machines by real human beings." They said.

"Dance music is almost exclusively made today with laptop computers, on the same software, with the same virtual instruments, and a lot of the same drum sounds. Computers, as music instruments, are making it difficult for musicians to have their distinctive sonic personality, and a lot of dance records are starting to sound the same, in a very formatted way. We have always been fascinated by the relationship and connections between man and machine." The duo added.

"I think they might be missing the tools. The problem with the way to make music today, these are turnkey systems; they come with preset banks and sounds. They’re not inviting you to challenge the systems themselves, or giving you the ability to showcase your personality, individuality." Thomas Bangalter explained.

"They’re making it as if it’s somehow easier to make the same music you hear on the radio. Then it creates a very vicious cycle: How can you challenge that when the system and the media are not challenging it in the first place." 

"We really felt that the computers are not really music instruments, and we were not able to express ourselves using a laptop. We tried, but were not successful." He added.

'Random Access Memories' will be out on May 20 via Columbia Records.

Watch: Peace and Mystery Jets Cover Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"

Peace gave their London audience a surprise treat at their last date (3 May) of their four gigs at Birthdays  with a cover of Daft Punk latest hit "Get Lucky" involving Mystery Jets. 

Mystery Jets were announced as guests at the last minute, and joined Peace onstage.

Peace played a 50 minute set until Mystery Jets joined them on stage for the cover - which saw Harrison Koisser on vocals. Mystery Jets frontman Blaine Harrison and Peace bassist Sam Koisser wore Daft Punk 3D masks during their rendition of the track.

Listen: Daft Punk Share Audio For New Single "Get Lucky"

French Electronica robot duo Daft Punk have finally shared the audio for their new single "Get Lucky".

Featuring Pharrell Williams and Chic bandleader Nile Rodgers, "Get Lucky" is the first cut taken from Daft Punk upcoming album 'Random Access Memories', which will be out on May 21st via Columbia Records..

In related news, it seems that Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories won’t come equipped with a video accompaniment, the robot duo recently told a French magazine there won't be any clip -at least for now.

“For now, there won’t be any clip. The record was made in a pretty old-school studio. We’re going to rediscover the spirit of the great spectacles of giant billboards on Sunset Boulevard for bands like Love, The Doors, Led Zeppelin. On certain TV shows, we might show 15 or 60 second spots. 

“Firstly, we don’t want to influence people’s ideas [of the music] with images. Second, most of the records we like and that are the source of inspiration for this record, those are pre-MTV albums. You’ve got the sleeve, lots of pictures and info, that’s all, and the absence of visuals around The Beatles doesn’t bother us, and in fact makes their music more accessible to us. ‘Thriller’ is the ultimate masterpiece. After that, it won’t be the same anymore, because of video clips. 

“Our vision is this - ’There you go. The record’s here. Listen to it, dive into it, and we’ll see after.’”

Daft Punk Reveal 'Random Access Memories' Tracklist, Preview New Single "Get Lucky"

French electro outfit Daft Punk have revealed the tracklist for their fourth studio album 'Random Access Memories', which will be out on May 20 via Columbia Records.

The band have also unveiled a teaser for "Get Lucky", the first single from the record, which premiered this weekend first at Coachella Festival, and later on Saturday Night Live. The one-minute long clip sees the two French robots perform the track together with Pharell Williams and Nile Rodgers, the full length clip will be out within the next days.

Other collaborators on the album include The Strokes' Julian Casablancas, Animal Collective's Panda Bear, Paul Williams, disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder, DJ Falcon, Chilly Gonzales, Todd Edwards, and Chic's Nile Rodgers.

Daft Punk Announce New Album Title And Release Date

Daft Punk have announced that their fourth studio album, titled 'Random Access Memories' will be out on May 20 via Columbia Records.

The album will be available from 20 May and is also available to pre-order on CD and vinyl now. The UK announcement comes after RAM was added to the US iTunes store on the weekend (Saturday 23 March). The UK release date comes one day before the US, where the album will be available on 21 May.

The first official confirmation of the band's fourth studio album, rumoured to be titled No End, was revealed on 19 February, when Sony music registered a 13-track, 74 minute Daft Punk album with music rights company, PPL.

The follow-up to 2005's 'Human After All' will contain 13 new tracks, however, the tracklisting and song titles have yet to be confirmed. We'll keep you updated.

The pair, comprised by Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, premiered a clip of new music in America over the weekend during Saturday Night Live. Check it out below.
