Watch: Cut Off Your Hands Premiere New Single/Video "Live For Each Other"

Auckland alt-pop/nu wave band Cut Off Your Hands have premiered the video for their new single "Live For Each Other".

The song is taken from their third and final album 'HLLH', out tomorrow (October 16). Get it here.

Speaking about it, frontman Nick Johnston says: ‘Live For Each Other’ It is about self-consciousness within relationships and avoiding the temptation to put a magnifying glass on those I love.”

“The structure was built originally around a sample of ‘Slippery People’ by Talking Heads and was built from there. This is a reference not only to that band but also to one of the first songs I wrote for Shaky Hands ep ‘Takes Slowly Over’- which began life as a cover of ‘Girlfriend Is Better’ also by Talking Heads. If imitation is indeed the highest form of flattery then I think my tendency to chameleon socially around people I love finds fitting expression in a song that wears its musical references firmly on its sleeve.”

Watch: Cut Off Your Hands Release Video For New Single"On The Sea"

Auckland alt-pop/nu wave band Cut Off Your Hands have released their brand new single "On The Sea", and its accompanying video.

“‘On the Sea’ loops on an infinity groove, like the ditched desperate lover holding tight to an "idea of us" that is no longer, endlessly waiting, stuck on repeat in a Bad Pattern, sinking.”

“We've all been/are or have known/know that person. It's horrific, we don't have the answers, and other than rhythm and melody we can't offer much, but sometimes that's enough.”

New Entry: Cut Off Your Hands Drop New Single "Higher Lows and Lower Highs"

Auckland alt-pop/nu wave band Cut Off Your Hands have dropped their catchy new single "Higher Lows and Lower Highs".

The song is available now, it was written by Nick Johnston and Cut Off Your Hands, and the title refers to Nick Johnston’s recent diagnosis of a form of bipolar disorder. The lyrics speak in stream of consciousness manner of the negotiations of life compartmentalised into daily routine that such a disorder can be managed with.

It features a solid live sampled repetitive rhythm section, the structural composition takes cues from Remain in Light era Talking Heads as well as early New York house production. This leaves room for the vocals and lyrics to do the work in differentiating chorus/verse/bridge etc. The rhythm provided in the sampled/looped repetition is augmented by layers of percussion thanks to Jeremy Toy’s production.
