New Entry: Screensaver Drop "MEDS (A/N Remix)"

Aussie post punk/synth wave band screensaver have dropped the A/N Remix of their song "MEDS".

The remix is out today (April 22), the original version of the song is taken from the band's debut album 'Expressions of Interest', released last year through Upset The Rhythm and Heavy Machinery.

Speaking about the remix, A/N says: "The tom groove on MEDS is fantastic - that’s what drew us in initially. We were thinking we could layer that in with Krystals haunting vocals and make a slamming 140bpm techno banger. We have about three different versions in that vein, but none of them felt right. So we decided to slow it down and ride the bassline with a hard Linn Drum back-beat. All the lead “synth” sounds are the meds guitars thrown through samplers, apart from the ripper Virus line from the TI2 at the end. We are pretty silly people who love dark electronic and psychedelia so because of that our stuff tends to lean towards the weird and wonderful more so than the serious side of techno."

Watch: Screensaver Unveil Music Video For "Clean Current"

Aussie post punk/synth wave band screensaver have unveiled the video their latest single "Clean Current".

The song is part of our current playlist and came out as double A-side single 'Clean Current/Repeats', earlier this month through Upset The Rhythm. Grab it here.

Clean Current is a burst of high-energy: nervy guitars and groovy base underpinned with krautrock drums and cosmic synth noise, overlayed with delay heavy vocals. Repeats is the flipside of the coin, a moody post-punk stomper, led by gritty saw tooth synth, chorus-soaked guitar, textural percussion and soaring vocals. Lyrically Clean Current spits out retorts aimed at the engulfing nature of anxiety whilst Repeats critiques the repetition of modern life, languishing human existence.

Clean Current nods it’s head to likes of Snapper and 80s Flying Nun bands whilst Repeats owes it origins more to the progenitors of goth-rock.

Watch: Screensaver Unveil Music Video For "Buy / Sell / Trade"

Aussie post punk/synth wave band screensaver have unveiled the video for their newest single "Buy / Sell / Trade".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from their debut album 'Expressions of Interest', released earlier this month (October 8th) through Upset The Rhythm and Heavy Machinery. Get your copy here.

On the video to  B/ST the band say: "Welcome to your psychedelic VHS nightmare/dream. In the Buy/Sell/Trade video clip we invite you to dive into the clutter. Everyday we’re overloaded with words and images that at a point everything we see and read becomes almost meaningless.

The video concept is about language and visuals and how we as individuals inject meaning into both. The use random words throughout the clip aims to stimulate a response in the viewer, the meaning of which is unique to each person processing the words and creating their own subjective context. The words are unrelated to the songs lyrics, but their meaning now tied to the song can suggest whatever the individual viewer chooses to conclude.

Videographer and multimedia artist Haiden Nettle dug deep into his collection of old science VHS tapes, gathering footage he felt most appropriate for the vibe of the track. Footage of the band was then layered on top and recorded to VHS tape through a video-mixer. Images and text from old copies of the obscure magazine Nexus were turned into rotating 3D objects that surround the band. The overall effect is a visual overload of colour and movement to accompany the synth-driven krautrock jammer that will make you think about the visual and sensory bombardment of life in the world today."

Watch: Screensaver Share New Single/Video "Skin"

Aussie post punk/synth wave band screensaver have shared the video for their new single "Skin".

The song is taken from their upcoming debut studio album 'Expressions of Interest', set to be released on October 8th through Upset The Rhythm and Heavy Machinery. Pre-order your copy here.

"Thematically, Skin is about being human and navigating decision making" says Krystal Maynard. "It’s about embracing accountability for your decisions, even when the outcome is undesirable. I guess you could say it’s a song born of frustration; we live in a world where accountability is the exception rather than the norm. It contemplates whether we all just need to learn to sit with discomfort more. Musically it’s quite gloomy but buoyant, it’s a sound that as a band we’re quite fond of, can you be sad but still dance to this? Yes – fantastic. It’s textural as well, reverb-soaked percussion throughout the song gives it dimension and a pulse with a sense of underlying urgency. "

Screensaver Announce Debut LP 'Expressions of Interest', Stream "No Movement"

Aussie post punk/synth wave band screensaver have announced the released on their debut studio album 'Expressions of Interest'.

Engineered by Julian Cue alongside band member Chris Stephenson and recorded over multiple studio sessions between 2020-2021, the 10-track album will  be available on October 8th through Upset The Rhythm and Heavy Machinery. Pre-order your copy here.

Sonically, the record is rich and detailed, and pays homage to its era of inspiration (late 70s-mid 80s post-punk and new wave) with gripping vocals, dissonant guitar, melodic basslines, washes of synths and motorik drumming.

On new single 'No Movement' the band say: "No Movement was written in the jam room and built around the simple organ riff,  despite its title the song is full of dynamic and interplay between the instruments. It's a favourite of ours to play live. The lyrics explores themes of anxiety and rumination, shaping a loose narrative around a character paralysed by fear and intrusive thoughts unable to move forward in life."

From electronic-driven krautrock, to post-punk full of tribal toms and dirge-y synths, to death-disco with touches of EDM, 'Expressions of Interest' is an album that is both fierce in attack and destined for the dance floor.
