LIFE Unleash "Shipping Forecast" Video & New Track "Hull Sky"

British indie rock/pop band Life have unleashed the video for their latest single "Shipping Forecast" and the b-side track "Hull Sky".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album ‘North East Coastal Town’, released last month (August 19). Buy it here

Of the tracks, the band say: “‘Shipping Forecast’ is a track that is awash with Hull’s nautical heritage,” the band’s Mez Green has said of the track. “The music channels the power of the waves somewhere between Dogger and Humber.

“It’s an urgent and powerful track that grapples with the need to get home and pins themes of toxic social media and control to its mast.

“The track was one of the first to be written from ‘North East Coastal Town’ and its energy and mood very much set the scene of our recording process.”

“‘Hull Sky’ sneers, stomps and powers along with themes of romance,” Mez says. “Whilst it didn’t quite fit the feel of ‘North East Coastal Town’, we’re excited to release it as the b-side to one of our favourite songs off the new album.”

Watch: LIFE Reveal New Single/Video "The Drug"

British indie rock/pop band Life have revealed the video for their new single "The Drug".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album ‘North East Coastal Town’, which will be out on August 19. Pre-order it here

Of the track, the band say: 'The Drug is a love song. I wrote the lyrics in the cold mountains of Italy before taking them into the room with the band. ''The Drug I needed has always been here, the drug I needed has always been near'' is, for me, realising that loved ones and those that love you, no matter where you are, can always be present. I'd never really believed this before and whilst this purity is at the lyrical heart of the song musically the band decided to inject flecks of dance, pop, harmonics, and dirty pulses to give the song drive, repetition and jerk-ability.'

The video features various artists and friends from the creative community within Shirethorn House; a commune of artists who have taken residency in the derelict building in Hull’s city centre. The film is a Stew Baxter and Luke Hallett production.

New Entry: LIFE Unleash New Single "Almost Home"

British indie rock/pop band Life have unleashed their new single "Almost Home".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album ‘North East Coastal Town’, which will be out 10 June. Pre-order it here

North East Coastal Town is a love letter to the city. The album is an ode to kinship and relationship with its musical and lyrical spine picking out themes of love, desire, beauty, horror, chaos, pride and most importantly the sense of belonging.

“Almost Home barks, jolts, jerks and spits with the theme of pining to be home and thus chimes with North East Coastal Town’s over-riding sense of belonging. ‘Taste the difference…feel significant…hold a lifeline, you’re almost home!’” Mez Green says. “Almost Home is a song that wrestles with ego and love, with love winning; Recipe, I ain’t a cult recipe.”

New Entry: LIFE Return With New Single "Friends Without Names"

British indie rock/pop band Life have returned with their brand new single "Friends Without Names".

The song is out today (Nov 17) and is the first taste of their upcoming third studio album. Grab it here

From the band: “Friends Without Names is the anchor and blueprint for our next record. In a remote part of Eastern England, close to the river Humber, we performed this track as if we were in trance; vibrating in a constant musical crescendo. Our aim was to push ourselves and harness differing time zones whilst giving in to the moments of beauty, horror, love and chaos depicted by the song’s lyrics.”

LIFE Announce New LP 'A Picture Of Good Health', Stream "Hollow Thing"

British indie rock/pop band Life have announced the release of their second full-length album 'A Picture Of Good Health'.

Produced by Luke Smith (Foals) and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer (Parquet Courts), the 13-track record will be out on September 20th via band's own label Afghan Moon and [PIAS]. Pre-order your copy here.

According to the press release, in this album, the band home in on a bigger and more focused sound whilst also channelling the lyrical content inwards. Whereas the band’s debut album Popular Music was broadly political, the new album takes a more personal approach with beguilingly honest and brave lyrics that are bold in both sound and feeling, whilst also retaining the core DNA of their previous material.

Lead vocalist Mez Sanders-Green says “A Picture of Good Health is not a collage of work but rather a snapshot of time; our time and the time of those around us. It’s political, but in a personal way. It’s a body of work that explores and examines the bands inner-selves through a precise period; a period that has brought pain, loneliness, blood, guts, single parenthood, depression and the need for survival and love. It is the sense and need for belonging that is the resounding end note!”.
