Ducks Ltd. Air "In Between Days Feat. Jane Inc" (The Cure cover)

Toronto jangle pop band Ducks Ltd. have aired their cover version of The Cure classic "Sheets of Grey" featuring Toronto-based experimental-pop artist, Jane Inc.

This is the first cover of a series by Ducks Ltd. called The Sincerest Form Of Flattery, out on Carpark Records. Get it here.

About the cover, frontman Tom McGreevy states: “Robert Smith is a genius and the Cure are the best and I absolutely love this song. It’s such a simple one but all of the pieces slot together so neatly. We listened to all the demos he made of it, and it’s cool to hear how clearly the fundamental parts of it are realized on the very first one, even though he doesn’t have any lyrics yet and is just wordlessly singing the melody (which I also do when we demo stuff!). We mostly tracked this one on a day off when we were on tour with Nation of Language, so the vocal was tracked in the front seat of a parked Mitsubishi Outlander in the middle of the night outside an Airbnb in Grand Junction, Colorado. It’s also the first thing we’ve made that our bass player Katie plays on.

Carlyn Bezic (aka Jane Inc) has been a pal for maybe a decade and is one the best musicians in Toronto. I’ve seen her in so many bands and it’s been so cool to watch the Jane Inc project come together, as it feels like she just keeps refining and perfecting a creative vision that was already clear in some of the first projects I saw her in. I’ve wanted to do something with her for forever, so I was super excited she said yes to this!

PS: Someone told me once that Robert Smith only responds to emails on one day a week and it’s always IN ALL CAPS. I have no idea if this is true, but I really want it to be. Also please email me Mr Smith!”

Ducks Ltd. Drop "Head On Feat. Illuminati Hotties" (Jesus & Mary Chain cover)

Toronto jangle pop band Ducks Ltd. have dropped their cover version of Jesus & Mary Chain classic "Sheets of Grey" featuring Illuminati Hotties.

This is the first cover of a series by Ducks Ltd. called The Sincerest Form Of Flattery, out on Carpark Records. Get it here.

About the cover, frontman Tom McGreevy states: “The original “Head On” is totally a classic. The lyrics are just so brilliant in an understated kind of way, but I actually started thinking about covering it after listening to the Pixies’ cover of it on Trompe le Monde. They really kick the shit out of it in a totally different way than The Jesus and Mary Chain do, and it made me desperate for a chance to sing it, and also got me thinking about ways you could adapt the vibe of it to make it fit into our world a bit.

“Sarah Tudzin has an immense and powerful production/mixing mind and one of my favorite singing voices of anyone doing stuff right now, so we asked her if she’d be down to work on it with us and she helped us figure out how to make all the pieces fit together. Truly a high honor! She also persuaded us to record our guitars through actual amplifiers for the first time ever, rather than going straight into the box like we normally do which feels momentous! Amplifiers! Who knew!”

The song is out today, January 27 through Carpark Records. Get it here.

From the band: "We recorded Sheets of Grey when we were doing the Modern Fiction sessions and always liked it, but it didn't quite fit on that record. It's actually one of our earliest songs though and I'm very excited we get to release it! Come for the part at the beginning where I use my high school latin (thanks Mr. Bigger!) but stay for the bit in the middle where Evan plays two guitar solos layered on top of each other!"

Watch: Ducks Ltd. Reveal New Song/Video "As Big As All Outside"

Toronto jangle pop band Ducks Ltd. have released the video for their new song "As Big As All Outside".

It is taken from the forthcoming expanded reissue of their EP 'Get Bleak', featuring three additional bonus tracks, “Oblivion,” “As Big As All Outside,” and “It’s Easy”, out May 21st through Carpark Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Whereas the original tracks on the EP demonstrate the debut stylings of Ducks Ltd., the bonus tracks on the album serve as indications of their music to come later on Carpark Records. Bringing the band’s characteristic restless bounce, thoughtful lyricism and penchant for orchestration, the tracks explore topics like troubled friendships (“It’s Easy”), self-destructive desires (“Oblivion”), and living with decline (“As Big As All Outside”) while maintaining the balance of earnest self-reflection and humor that endeared audiences to the original release.
