Chevalier Avant Garde Announce New LP 'Death Drive', Stream "State of the Union"

Montreal-based minimal/post punk/dream pop duo Chevalier Avant Garde have announced the release of their new album 'Death Drive'.

Set to arrive on July 29 through Too Good To Be True, the record features nine beautifully crafted tracks (plus one bonus digital track, "Roses", available when purchasing the physical or digital version of the album) in a style that the band masters: a beautiful electropop, both gleaming and cold. Pre-order your copy here.

With songs sometimes ambient-tinted, sometimes with post-punk or 80s synthpop accents, this album perfectly illustrates Chevalier Avant Garde's musical duality: melancholic and cold on the one side, danceable and cheerful on the other side.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for their new single "State of the Union" below.

Death Drive Tracklist:
1. Stranger
2. Underpass
3. State of the Union

Watch: Chevalier Avant Garde Share New Video For "Killing Fields"

Montreal's euro-sleaze twosome Chevalier Avant Garde have shared a scratched, ripped-from-VHS music video for "Killing Fields".

The song is taken from the band's latest 'Resurrection Machine', which was released on September 10th via Fixture Records. You can grab your copy here.

VHS-hacking music video director Rob Feulner (who also directed the clip for "Rose Rider") said: "The original footage is a snippet from The Terminator. It’s a really gorgeous scene: this passionate embrace, which gets interrupted by a robot. It worked so well with the atmosphere and lyrics: two damned souls, love won't save them; but desire and co-dependence are a good distraction."

"This video mostly consisted of three or four back-and-forth dubs of increasingly damaged VHS footage of that scene. When I finally reached the level of noise that I wanted, I juxtaposed it with a much cleaner DVD-to-VHS dub. The ending of the video, which is the clean version, with my finger lightly rubbing against the VHS head, is much more visually coherent than the rest. I tried to convey that, while things in the past were still kind of bad and noisy, it could always be so much worse." He added.

Watch: Chevalier Avant Garde Release "Rose Rider" Music Video

Montreal-based minimal/post punk duo Chevalier Avant Garde have released the video for "Rose Rider", the new track taken from their upcoming LP 'Resurrection Machine', which is set to be released on September 10th on Fixture Records.

The clip was directed by director and visualizer Rob Feulner, who embraced the band’s skin-deep vision by deciding to almost completely ignore the link between the song and the visuals. Rob grabbed a couple VHS copies of Jean Rollin's 1973 art film The Iron Rose- because he thought it had the word "rose" in it and it looked great, then he manipulated and yanked on the tapes to achieve the video's trippy you’re-dad’s-worn-out VHS copy of old porn look. Rob wanted to toy with the idea of being trapped between life and death, while Dimitri just wanted a rose, a desert and a naked chick walking around (noisey).
