Adam 'MCA' Yauch (August 5, 1964 – May 4, 2012) |
Adam 'MCA' Yauch died at the age of 47, it has been reported.
Yauch revealed he had a cancerous tumour in his left parotid gland in July 2009, and stayed away from the limelight during the release of the band's most recent album 'Hot Sauce Committee, Part Two' last year.
He was a co-founder of the Beastie Boys alongside Mike 'Mike D' Diamond and Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horowitz in 1979, but didn't break through until 1986's 'Licensed to Ill'. Further albums including 'Paul's Boutique' and 'Ill Communication' followed, propelling the band to the very top of their field.
The band were inducted into America's Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame earlier this
year, but Yauch was unable to attend due to his health.
Yauch, who is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter, Losel, wrote a letter to his bandmates and fans for last month's hall of fame induction: "I'd like to dedicate this to my brothers Adam and Mike," he wrote. "They walked the globe with me. It's also for anyone who has ever been touched by our band. This induction is as much ours as it is yours."
R.I.P 'MCA'.
