New Entry: Spike Hellis Premiere New Single "Slices"

Los Angeles based electronic duo Spike Hellis (aka Cortland Gibson and Elaine Chang) have premiered their new single "Slices".

The song is taken from their their forthcoming self-titled debut album, which will be available on April 1st through their own imprint Over-Pop. Pre-order your copy here.

Incorporating a wide range of elements from industrial, new beat and techno, to freestyle, electro and EBM, their dark, experimental pop is sure to make you move to the pain. It wouldn’t be EBM if the overtones of manipulation, submission and suffering weren’t prominent and here they certainly are. However, one of the many things that separates Spike Hellis from their contemporaries is the clever sampling and sound design. Their sequences are dynamically crafted and move effortlessly between all hard-dance subgenres.

Mid-Century Modern was inspired by life events before and during the pandemic. Songs touch on the loneliness of being secluded, relationship and personal struggles, while also offering glimpses of hope and enjoyment.

Borderline” is a story about a person whose personal struggles are being spread to friends and family in a negative way. The band expands, “even though you may try to help a struggling friend, you might not be able to affect positive change until they can help themselves first.”
