DEADLETTER Premiere New Single/Video "Weights"

Yorkshire post punk band DEADLETTER have premiered their new single "Weights", alongside an accompanying music video.

The song is out now and is taken from their debut EP 'Heat!', set to be released on 18th November through SO Recordings. Get it here.

Speaking about it, lead vocalist Zac Lawrence states: ‘Weights’ in parts, is a pessimistic musing on the experiences you take with you through life, which can feel like a physical burden to be dragged without reprieve. But it’s also a track of silver linings, as it aims to cement the idea that it’s fine to accept that you’re not always alright, and that you can ask for help should things get too heavy – and that’s often the only way of lessening the load. It’s informed by sorrow and self-loathing, but also joy and healing.

DEADLETTER Premiere New Single/Video "Binge"

Yorkshire post punk band DEADLETTER have premiered their new single "Binge", alongside an accompanying music video.

The song is out today (Aug 18) through SO Recordings. Get it here.

‘Binge’ was musically spawned from the depths of a long London winter, with little sunlight and little joy. It is the sound of various excesses cyclically incubating then emerging in a world geared towards constant satiation of desire, but with a hungry black hole at its centre which seems to only grow the more it is fed. Whether through devotion to a deity or stamp collecting, as humans we are all desperate to feed the emptiness festering at the intersection of sentience and instinct. Thus, we binge.

On the track singer Zac Lawrence said, “Binge was written in no more than 25 minutes during rehearsals for a tour in January. Using our usual formula of “drumbeat, bassline, lyrics, seasoning” it was quickly realised that we had to include it in our coming live shows and record it without further ado. Sometimes the energy of a track’s just there, you don’t have to think about it for a year.”

Zac adds, “Hearing the word Binge, we may initially be drawn to a very specific image or thought of a person or a habit, however when we take a closer look at society it can be realised that bingeing is inherent within our behaviour as human beings. Whether it be something as mundane as collecting stamps, or devotion of your existence to a deity, we are all bingers through and through and, ultimately, life is one long binge.”

DEADLETTER Air New Single "Pop Culture Connoisseur"

Yorkshire post punk band DEADLETTER have aired their new single "Pop Culture Connoisseur".

The song is out today (November 3) through Nice Swan Records. Get it here.

A press release explains: “[The song] finds singer and frontman Zac Lawrence switching from the overt politicism of previous releases into a more tongue-in-cheek narrative centred around the case of PC Read, a police officer fired for stealing doughnuts through a self-service checkout. In addition to providing a case study into the fashion those in positions of authority often consider themselves above the law, the track also aims to comment at the manner modern morality so often relates to PR optics, as the cultural trope of law enforcement eating doughnuts is played out in real time.”
