Watch: The Story Behind Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures" Cover Art

The cover art for Joy Division's 1979 classic Unknown Pleasures has been featured in a new video series about the visualization of data and its cultural impact.

The video features creator Peter Saville discussing the artwork, saying that Joy Division came to him with the original image, which is a signal from a pulsar that was lifted from the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Astronomy.

Peter Saville worked on many album sleeves, including Joy Division's second and final album Closer, New Order's Power, Corruption And Lies, Peter Gabriel's So, Wham!'s Music From The Edge Of Heaven and Pulp's This Is Hardcore.
