Wire Announce New LP '10:20' Stream Reworked “Small Black Reptile”

Seminal UK post-punk band Wire have announced the release of their new record '10:20', featuring rare, unreleased and reworked tracks.

The follow-up to Mind Hive, released earlier this year, will be out on April 18 as a Record Store Day vinyl-exclusive release compiling a handful of what the band describes as “strays”—or songs that were never fully realized in the recording studio. Pre-order your copy here.

The first single is a new version of “Small Black Reptile,” originally included on their 1990 album Manscape.

"10:20 is a glimpse into the working practice of the band and may perhaps give clues as to why Wire has retained such a singular identity through the years. The album divides in to two halves – the 2010 side & the 2020 side – hence the title. When Wire plays live there are, in the main, three classes of piece: new songs, old songs and ‘new old’ songs. The latter often involves taking something that existed on a previous release and re-working it, very often evolving a stage highlight from it. There also pieces that have never seen a major release but for some reason never fitted on an album. The best of these ideas have been recorded in two sessions – one relating to Red Barked Tree but recorded in 2010 and another relating to Mind Hive and released in 2020."

Victories At Sea Detail New LP 'Everybody’s Lost And All I Want Is To Leave'

Birmingham post punk/indie rock band Victories at Sea have revealed full details of their second studio album 'Everybody's Lost And All I Want Is To Leave'.

Recorded on the shores of Loch Fyne and mixed in their native Birmingham, the 10-track album will be out on 21st February via Dutch imprint Gentlemen Recordings. Pre-order your copy here.

According to the press release, the record, refines and redefines the sound of Victories at Sea. Everybody’s Lost and All I Want Is to Leave was conceived and realised as a statement. A permanent marker of the pinnacle of the trio’s possible creation, an honest and direct expression of the collective power of the three band members.

The band's words: "It’s been a long time coming, we began writing this record in the Highlands of Scotland back in the summer of 2018, full time, day and night in an isolated studio on the banks of Loch Fyne in a live room far from home. It was the best thing the three of us could have done. Away from the distractions and anxieties of real life, what came out was a collection of ideas and new songs informed by the environment and the openness and beauty of the hills and mountains surrounding us as well as the escapism of being out of the city. It saved us and revitalised us."

This album is more than a collection of songs, it stands as a collective of artistic work designed at every point to demonstrate a belief in the power of the album, the power of music, the power of words. Something beautiful that would remain forever.

Tame Impala Announce New LP 'The Slow Rush', Stream "It Might Be Time"

Aussie psych-rockers Tame Impala have announced the release of their long-awaited fourth studio album 'The Slow Rush'.

The 12-track record features their previously unveiled track "Borderline" and the new single "It Might Be Time".

According to the press release, the single, is described as, “Your paranoid shadow snapping at your Achilles heel. It’s the horrifying idea that your mojo’s gone out for a walk and it may not be coming back. It’s second guessing yourself, wondering ‘have I still got it? Did I ever??’ Your paranoid inner observer taunting you in your own denial, telling you to wake up and accept your salad days are over. A dynamic, bombastic burst of pungent prog-pop, ‘It Might Be Time’ pulses on an insistent keyboard groove, punctuated by collisions of overblown drums flaying at the edges, the outward expression of a restless internal funk. A heady psych bomb threatening to implode, ‘It Might Be Time’ is potent Tame Impala 2020.”

Wire Announce New LP 'Mind Hive', Stream "Cactused"

Seminal UK post-punk band Wire have announced the release of their new studio album 'Mind Hive'.

The follow-up to their 2017’s Silver/Lead, and the band's seventeenth studio album, will be out on January 24 2020, through the band's own pinkflag label. Pre-order your copy here.

Since their inception Wire have maintained a reputation for creating music that stretches the rock form whilst simultaneously editing it down to its essence. With their gift for crafting songs that perfectly balance experimentation and accessibility, Wire were recently hailed by the Quietus as “one of the most consistent British bands of all time.” Yet Wire exhibit little inclination to look back or trade on past glories, rather they remain resolutely focused on producing music which is smart, vital and defiantly modern..

The band have also shared the album's lead single "Cactused", the first of Mind Hive’s pop moments. Newman’s vocal is wide eyed and wired, with Lewis’ smooth backing vocals thickening the plot. Simms’ effects-heavy guitar work creates a bright web of noise, with the song’s stop/start moments providing a series of precise energy bursts.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the clip for "Cactused" below.

Silver/Lead Tracklist:
01. Be Like Them
02. Cactused
03. Primed and Ready

Soft Riot Announces New LP 'When Push Comes To Shove', Stream "Taking Off The Edge"

Glasgow-based synth pop/electronic/minimal/dark wave musician JJD aka Soft Riot has announced the release of his seventh studio album 'When Push Comes To Shove'.

The follow-up to 2018's The Outsider In The Mirrors, was recorded and mixed by JJD in sessions from June 2018 until May 2019 at Studio 75 and Studio Carillon in Glasgow. It will be out in November 11 through Possession Records. Get your copy here.

Resonating with references from all corners of the synthpop’s origins (DAF, Fad Gadget and John Foxx to name a few), Soft Riot’s latest release nonetheless manages to retain its own individual voice, melding and reinterpreting its antecedents with a personal twist and an impressive demonstration of synth-craft and programming. Following on from 2018’s The Outsider in the Mirrors, these ten tracks represent a change in themes and an evolution in production and sound.

The forthcoming single and album opener "Taking The Edge Off" sets out the Soft Riot manifesto, a propulsive future-synth tale of forging ever-forwards in an increasingly noisy world. "It's No Laughing Matter" is a hedonistic yet propulsive dance-floor slammer — shades of minimal synth and metallic Belgian new beat condense in side one closer "Fate’s Got A Bone To Pick With You" and the dizzying italo-matic muscle workout "Don’t Get Yourself Bent Out Of Shape" is the ultimate self-help smack down.

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to his new single "Taking Off The Edge", below.

When Push Comes To Shove Tracklist:
01. Taking Off The Edge
02. It's No Laughing Matter
03. The Lost Weekend
04. Fate's Got A Bone To Pick With You
05. By The Skin Of Your Teeth
06. Don't Get Yourself Bent Out Of Shape
07. Heads Turn Around
08. Your Work Is Never Done

Catholic Action Announce New LP 'Celebrated by Strangers', Stream "One Of Us"

Glasgow indie rock/glam four-piece Catholic Action have announced the release of their sophomore album 'Celebrated by Strangers'.

The follow-up to 2017's In Memory Of, was produced by lead singer and guitarist Chris McCrory (SPINN, Walt Disco) at Hermitage Works in London and at Shady Lane Studio in Erskine, mixed by Rich Turvey (Blossoms, Cabbage, The Coral) at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool, and will be out on March 27, 2020, Pre-order your copy here.

New single "One Of Us" packs a fuzzed-out stomp alongside masterfully giddy melodies that sees lead singer and guitarist Chris McCrory recount “the welfare son of a welfare son”, taking aim at the billionaire-owned media and their Bullingdon Club ilk who shirk responsibility for sowing the division we see in the UK.

It sets the tone for a record that asks both searching questions of the self, while pointing the finger at inaction in the wider world. Through a procession of skittish, off-kilter riffs and squawking saxophones, Celebrated by Strangers doesn’t just call for action, it demands it. Fizzing with invention, accusation, self-belief and creativity, it never stutters under the weight of its own message.

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to "One Of Us" below.

The Who Announce New Album 'WHO', Stream "Ball and Chain"

Legendary rockers The Who have announced the release of their new album 'WHO', their first in thirteen years.

The eleven-track album will be out on 22nd November, it was mostly recorded in London and Los Angeles during Spring and Summer 2019 and was co-produced by Pete Townshend & Dave Sardy with vocal production by Dave Eringa.

Singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend are joined on the album by long-time Who drummer Zak Starkey, bassist Pino Palladino along with contributions from Simon Townshend, Benmont Tench, Carla Azar, Joey Waronker and Gordon Giltrap.

The album cover has been created by famed pop artist, Sir Peter Blake who first met the band in 1964 at a taping of the legendary TV show Ready Steady Go. Sir Peter designed and contributed a painting to the sleeve of The Who’s album Face Dances in 1981.

The songs on WHO cover a myriad of subjects including the Grenfell Tower fire, musical theft, spirituality, reincarnation, the power of memory and ‘an old rock star that has lost his marbles’. Singer Roger Daltrey rates it amongst their strongest “I think we’ve made our best album since Quadrophenia in 1973, Pete hasn’t lost it, he’s still a fabulous songwriter, and he’s still got that cutting edge”.

Pete Townshend "This album is almost all new songs written last year, with just two exceptions. There is no theme, no concept, no story, just a set of songs that I (and my brother Simon) wrote to give Roger Daltrey some inspiration, challenges and scope for his newly revived singing voice. Roger and I are both old men now, by any measure, so I’ve tried to stay away from romance, but also from nostalgia if I can. I didn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Memories are OK, and some of the songs refer to the explosive state of things today. I made new home studio demos of all these songs in the summer of 2018 using a wide collection of instruments old and new.”

Pre-order the album here, check out the track list and listen to their new single "Ball and Chain" below.
