Body Type Announce Debut Album, Stream "Sex & Rage"

Sydney jangle pop/rock band Body Type have announced the release of their debut full-length album 'Everything Is Dangerous But Nothing's Surprising'. 

Recorded and mastered by Jonathan Boulet, the 11 new tracks sound joyfully anarchic, bursting with life and autonomy. It’s an album all about yanking back control, embracing abandon and purging despair, told through the grizzly margins of wiry garage-pop and energetic post-punk.

Speaking about the new single vocalist Sophie McComish explains: “‘Sex & Rage”is a reflection on finding passion amidst feverish banality. When you are uninspired, when you feel sad that the general public would rather look at their phone screens than what’s hanging on the walls of the Louvre; when lovers leave you just like they always do and everything feels like a cliché – remember the feelings that set you aflame, and the things that make those feelings happen. For me, it’s Body Type and cryptic crosswords.”

MNNQNS Announce New LP 'The Second Principle', Air "Full Circle Back" Video

French indie rock/post punk band MNNQNS have announced the release of their sophomore album 'The Second Principle'.

The follow-up to 2019's Body Negative, was recorded in their hometown (Rouen, FR), mixed by Jolyon Thomas (Slaves, U2), and will be out on April 22 via Yalta. Pre-order your copy here.

Real Lies Announce New LP 'Lad Ash', Stream "An Oral History Of My First Kiss"

London bedroom pop/electronic duo Real Lies have announced the release of their long-awaited sophomore album 'Lad Ash'.

On Lad Ash lyricist Kevin Lee Kharas romanticises ecstasy-fuelled teenage joyrides that set the coordinates for two decades of thrill-seeking hedonism. A wild period that resulted in both the group’s euphoric 2015 debut and the prolonged six-year wait for its follow up.

In places, that euphoria remains – they’ve never sounded higher than on ‘Dream On’ – but generally the mood here is darker, more late-night, club-ready and ruminative. There are songs about losing childhood friends in mysterious circumstances (‘Dolphin Junction’), bandmates (‘Boss Trick’ is a wake for former member Tom Watson), childhood innocence (‘An Oral History Of My First Kiss’) and huge swathes of memory (‘The Carousel’). As the title implies, Lad Ash is a coming-of-age album that draws out the beauty and longing of the young British male experience by reframing it through an elegiac, at times almost gothic, lens.

In a press release, speaking about he new single/video Kharas said: “Oral History” is a song about girls with Saturday jobs and boys with nothing to do finding magic in each other, in boring places with boring people who have cruel and stupid ideas about anything or anyone who’s different. The video is meant to reflect that sense of being young and stuck somewhere, waiting for something to happen."

Watch: Tallies Drop New Single/Video "Wound Up Tight"

Toronto dream pop/indie pop band Tallies have dropped their new single "Wound Up Tight" and its accompanying video.

The band have also shared the song “Heavens Touch”, both tracks are out now via Kanine Records (US), Hand Drawn Dracula (Canada) and Bella Union (UK/EU). Get it here.

“Wound Up Tight” continues to deliver on the promises that their debut record outlined pulling on the shoegaze / dream-pop tropes of Lush, The Sundays, Beach House, placing laser-focused guitar lines below washes of synth and electronics. Produced by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) and Dylan Frankland (Tallies) at Palace Sound, Baskitball 4 Life and Candle Recording in Toronto.

Speaking about “Wound Up Tight,” singer Sarah Cogan explains: “This song is about being stuck in a constant rotating vicious cycle that makes one want to tear their own hair out. It’s about a feeling towards someone who just doesn’t care enough to make a change.” When discussing “Heaven’s Touch,” Cogan explains: “This song is someone’s pleas for more love, more time, and more effort from their partner. They’re willing to do whatever it takes in exchange for more love.”

Watch: Stone Release New Single/Video "Stupid"

Liverpool indie rock Stone have released the video for their new single "Stupid".

From the band: "'Stupid' was captured during a period of time when we felt torn between being a child and an adult. The lyrics go deep into the youthful angst of growing up. We've backed this with a wall of sound and a guitar riff that almost sounds like an alarm siren letting you know how real everything is getting."

"The lyrics are sarcastic at times and we wanted the melody of the guitar and bass to have a groove to pace the song out. We wanted the song to feel uneasy and exciting at the same time."

Watch: NewDad Reveal New Single/Video "Banshee"

Irish alt rock/slo-fi band NewDad have revealed the video for their new single "Banshee".

The song is taken from their new EP ‘Banshee’, produced John Congleton, out today, February 9 via Fair Youth Records. Get it here.

Speaking about it with Dork, Julie Dawson said: "‘Banshee’ is the title track and probably my favourite off the EP. I adore the bassline and the main guitar and how they dance around each other. The idea behind the song is that you’re looking at someone who’s struggling, and you see they’ve become a shell of themselves, like a ghost, or a banshee, more specifically.

"Banshees are from Irish folklore, which I think is cool, and the idea that they herald the death of someone kinda ties in with the idea that this person is on their last legs."

Melbourne punk/post punk/garage four-piece Pinch Points have unveiled the video for their new single "AM I OKAY?".

The song is taken from their forthcoming eighth studio album 'PROCESS', which will be available on March 18 through Mistletone Records (AU/NZ) and Exploding In Sound Records (U.S.). Pre-order your copy here.

As the album title suggests, Process is a commentary on structural collapse; the systemic failures and baked-in inequalities that are ravaging ecosystems, the mental health system, the gig economy workforce and all aspects of our lives. The title Process also recognises the emotions processed and channelled in the songs, as a collective expression of empathy and shared grief.
