Buzzcocks Drop New Single/Video "Manchester Rain"

British punk rock pioneers Buzzcocks have dropped the video for their new single "Manchester Rain".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album 'Sonics In The Soul', set to be released on September 23 via Cherry Red Records. Pre-order it here.

The legendary Manchester punk band need little introduction. Back in 1977, they gave birth to a generation of independent labels with their debut EP ‘Spiral Scratch’. Thereafter, their melodic punk-pop proved irresistible, leading to hit singles and three landmark albums. They broke up in 1981 but reunited in 1989 and have been going steady ever since. Sadly, singer Pete Shelley passed away in 2018 but founder member and the band’s other singer/songwriter Steve Diggle has kept the flag flying. During the COVID pandemic, Steve and co. (Chris Remington on bass, Danny Farrant on drums) busied themselves with recording ‘Sonics In The Soul’. Recorded at Studio 7in London, the album was co- produced by Steve himself with Laurence Loveless.

Floral Image Unleash New Single "El Topo"

Norwich, UK psych-indie-electronica-rock five-piece Floral Image have unleashed their new single "El Topo".

The song b/w  "Subpoena", is out now through Catch 21 Records. With their 3rd single, Floral Image have revealed their most explorative recording yet. El Topo, named after Alejandro Jodorowsky’s cult cinema classic, aims to place you on an epic audial journey through an imagined technicolour landscape that Jodorowsky himself would be proud of producing. Ever mutating, El Topo takes you higher with its pounding Psych-Rock whilst also bringing you back down to earth with passages of awe inspiring ambient soundscapes.

A thumping crowd favourite at their already raucous live shows, El Topo stretches across your ears like a meandering psychedelic river. GIFT Unveil New Single/Video "Feather"

New York City neo-psychedelia five-piece GIFT have premiered their new single "Feather" alongside an accompanying music video.

The song is taken from their much-anticipated debut album 'Momentary Presence', set to arrive on entirety on October 14th through Dedstrange. Pre-order your copy here.

On the slow burning psychedelic ballad, Bandleader TJ Freda sings of “psychic destabilization and the quest for balance” from a patchwork nest of warm lo-fi electronica held together with hallucinatory bedroom production work plus a ton of love.

“I wrote ‘Feather’ after waking up from a lucid dream,” says Freda. “It’s about trying to help someone who can’t be helped, but in the end, you want to accept them for who they are and love them no matter what. It’s one of the most personal songs on the record.”

In the video, director Dylan Brannigan does his own dance of reality, performing magic acts of audiovisual alchemy to transform GIFT’s metaphysical disturbances into a series of surreal vignettes; each rendered in hazy, saturated hues like a contraband bootleg VHS of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Holy Mountain.

""Feather is Inspired by Jung’s theories of collective unconscious and its archetypes - A man, representing The Nine of Swords tarot card enters the astral plane where he undergoes a transformative experience.  Incorporating themes of botanical consciousness, individuation, and harmony, Feather is a portal into the mind of a character on the edge of a new frontier. "

On the astral plane, our story follows the figure of the Nine of Swords Tarot Card as he undergoes a process of individuation.

Manic Street Preachers Unveil Previously Unheard Song 'Studies In Paralysis'

Welsh rock trio Manic Street Preachers have unveiled a previously unreleased track called "Studies In Paralysis".

The song is taken from the reimagined version of their 6th album ‘Know Your Enemy’, which will be released on September 9 via Columbia/Sony. Grab your copy here.

'Studies in Paralysis' was recorded at Miloco Studios in London but left off the original 2001 release. It has remained unearthed until now and is available on the entirely remixed and reconstructed

The song, which Nicky Wire incorrectly remembered as being released as a b-side to one of the album's four singles, is a red raw rock'n'roll song with a none-more-classic Manics title celebrating the blankness and inertia that comes with the loss of belief.

The video for 'Studies In Paralysis' was directed by Kieran Evans, he explains how it came about:

"It started with an email from Wire (it always does!).  Would I be up for working on visualising two unheard tracks from the 'Know Your Enemy' sessions that were to feature in the beautifully expanded and reworked re-issue of the album?  Of course I would!  Both 'Rosebud' and 'Studies In Paralysis' landed an hour later and were stunning and took my breath away. Fuck me...They left these off the original album...what were they thinking???!!!

An hour later, another email landed from him - "I'll send some DV footage of the Miloco sessions up to you". But this footage was very different from previous recording sessions he'd filmed. There was a seriousness to everyone's behaviour and recording performances. There was no frivolity or funny off camera 'moments'. The atmosphere felt intense, you could feel the pressure they were under.

Cutting this footage to 'Studies in Paralysis' was a task. I went through many iterations and edits to get the right "feel" to reflect what is a truly glorious song... Thankfully...I think we definitely got there in the end".

The Cult Announce New LP 'Under the Midnight Sun', Stream "Give Me Mercy"

English rock band The Cult have announced the release of their 11th studio album 'Under the Midnight Sun'.

The follow-up to 2016's Hidden City, was produced by Tom Dalgety (Pixies, Ghost, Royal Blood) which will be out on October 7 via Black Hill. Pre-order your copy here.

As the world shut down and everyone was forced to reprioritize the way they approached life and work. "When the world stopped, I had this moment to write in real time, to calculate," says Astbury. When lockdown lifted and the group could meet to record, they teamed up with Dalgety. "I was compelled by this vision, this anomaly, this memory, of being under the midnight sun. Tom helped us bring a new musical shape and frequency to our process."

Lyrically, Under the Midnight Sun bolsters that new musical dexterity by building out from the idyllic and surreal vision at its title. Throughout, Astbury pulls in influences from Brian Jones, Brion Gysin, William Burroughs, Buddhism, the Beats, and the Age of Aquarius, all shaded with the lingering threat of the present and the timeless Cult color palette.

The band have also shared a video for the album’s lead single, “Give Me Mercy, ” speaking about it, band member Ian Astbury says: “I was absolutely enamored with this piece of music Billy [Duffy] had written, and it perfectly fit these thoughts I’d been having about our culture’s need to move past assumptions of duality. We need new language because words can’t express where we’re going. ‘Give Me Mercy’ has all the hallmarks of the new classic Cult to my ears…fresh yet familiar.”

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for “Give Me Mercy, ” below.

Under The Midnight Sun tracklisting:
