The song is taken from their sophomore album 'Cleareye Shining', which came out in November 2021 through Heavy Machinery Records. Grab your copy here.

Moving Now Now Now showcases the band's epoch of expressionist impulse.

Monochrome silhouettes are met with chess stylistically doused in Hollywood Regency. Bitumen’s Kate Binning embodies slick femme fatale with a choregraphed performance emphasising Binning’s affinity for stage and camera.

Produced by Jenny Branagan and Andrea Blake and edited by Bitumen’s very own Bryce Maher. “Moving Now Now Now”, connects the dots between Anger’s scandalous expose ‘Hollywood Babylon’, Bob Fosse, Klaus Naomi, and the golden age of glamour noir in the MTV Music Video.

Fujiya & Miyagi Premiere New Single "Slight Variations"

Brighton electronic/art pop outfit Fujiya & Miyagi have premiered their catchy new single "Slight Variations", featuring backing vocals by Everything Shook.

The song serves as the title track of their upcoming new album 'Slight Variations', set to be released on September 30th via Impossible Objects of Desire. Get it here.

Singer/guitarist David Best explaines: “There’s two meanings behind Slight Variations as a title. The first being how although biologically we are pretty much the same it’s the differences that tend to define us and cause friction and misunderstandings. The second is a nod to the suggestion that all our records sound similar to one another, when they all sound quite different to me. There’s a thread running through everything we do but we’ve always tried to push things forward.”

“Slight Variations” opens the record with a pulsing dancefloor gem, pulling together house and disco beats with sharp funk guitar and backing vocals from Everything Shook. The band captures an addictive synthesis of sounds and genre, tightly packing the track with infectious grooves, jolting synth textures, and colorful lyricism. Like the best of the band’s work, “Slight Variations” shows their affection for the many sub-genres of electronic and dance music, crafting a track that manages to be sleek and propulsive while remaining insular and hypnotic.

SPRINTS Air New Single/Video "Literary Mind"

Dublin-based post-punk/garage band SPRINTS have aired the video for their brand new single "Literary Mind".

The song is out today (Aug 31) and follows-on from the ‘Modern Job’ EP which came out in March via Nice Swan Records. Grab it here

With Literary Mind, Sprints share another slice of cathartic, melodic and punchy punk-rock, produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band. The single bookends a busy summer for the band, which included supporting Liam Gallagher in Belfast and a massively popular Glastonbury set. The new run of dates follows two sold-out UK tours. The accompanying video is a feel-good romantic odyssey culminating in the band crashing proceedings with typical exuberance.

On the new single, Karla Chubb offers the following "Literary Mind is probably one of our most light-hearted songs in Sprints in terms of subject matter, while still exploring something quite close to heart. It's a real deep dive and exploration into the feeling of falling in love, particularly queer love, in which you feel like you've been conditioned to believe a heteronormative way of life is the only "right" way to live, which leads to incredible difficulty and emotional oppression.

You push these feelings down, ignoring them, praying them away even but eventually with acceptance comes a rush of emotion that you never thought you'd feel. You unlock, finally, what it means to be happy and with it comes the rollercoaster of emotions, hot sweats, fever dreams, happiness, giddiness and excitement that we've tried to capture in the energy and pace of the song."

Gloin Announce Debut LP 'We Found This', Stream "Shoot to Kill"

The 10-track album was recorded with Dylan Frankland of Tallies and will be out on October 21st, 2022 via boutique Montreal label Mothland. Pre-order your copy here.

They offer a first glimpse of the loud and furious album on August 30th when they drop “Shoot to Kill” (accompanied by a music video), a discotheque-friendly post-punkish scorcher about breaking the monotonous working life cycle.

Drawing inspiration from Sonic Youth’s nonchalant verve and Lightning Bolt’s aggressive sonic constructs, Gloin’s new opus, We Found This, is flush with patented pop melodies and beautifully noisy arrangements, supported by a distorted rhythm section that offers plenty of urgency, but also soothing grooves. Lyrically, the long-player is as subversive as it is inspiring, challenging the routine, embracing the occult, celebrating individuality.

Lloyd's House Reveal New Single "Heather"

Glasgow based lo-fi pop aficionado Lloyd's House has revealed his new single single "Heather".

'Heather ‘finds Lloyd's House embracing his best flamboyant pop self with a breathy, hooky track that builds to a crescendo through dreamy harmonies and poignant "oh's" as the singer pines over a lost love.

Recorded by Chris McCrory (Catholic Action) and mastered by Sam Smith (Green Door), ‘Heather’ hits a transition point for Lloyd's House, as he maintains those lo-fi aspects of his shimmering self-titled debut, while introducing more polished pop methods to his process, executing an exuberant track that has the power to entrance as it does have you bopping along.

Lloyd's House is the eccentric pop brainchild of Lloyd Ledingham. After releasing his debut EP We Could Be Friends and self-titled album on Corkscrew Records to critical acclaim, Lloyd’s House continues to develop their sound demonstrating an experimental pop prowess built on melodic bass guitar, soulful drums, heart wrenching synth and lilted yet bittersweet vocals.

Taking influence from artists like Perfume Genius, Alex G and Porches, Lloyd's House has found their niche in Scotland's alt-pop scene, and 'Heather' sees the him pushing further afield with a fully formed live band set to tour the UK in September 2022.

"I've always been into catchy melodies and hooks, but sonically ‘Heather’’s a bit more weird, a bit more crunchy. a lot more impactful. A big part of that is having recorded it with a live band.

"It's probably the most cliche emo thing to write about, but a lot of the themes in the song are wanting someone but knowing that you can't have them. But trying anyway, because it's the only option you have. It's a lot of self pity, trying to find comfort in discomfort. Feeling like it's easier to want someone that you can't have than move on, process it and deal with it.”

Leatherette Announce Debut LP 'Fiesta', Stream "So Long"

Italian post-punk band Leatherette have announced the release of their debut full-length album 'Fiesta'.

The 10-track record will be out on 14th October via Bronson Recordings. The songs on Fiesta precede the Covid era, though the group spent the pandemic rewriting and overhauling their maiden batch of songs at leisure.  Pre-order your copy here.

The result is an astonishing and remarkable debut: poetic, caterwauling, broken and beautiful. The album title is “a reference to the bullfights in Pamplona,” the group say. It’s no empty metaphor. “Bullfight is a strange ritual,” they elaborate. “And we’re against bullfights, but they’re fascinating in an iconographic way. And also metaphorically, violence flows on both sides, but in a feastful way. It’s similar to a concert, really – you’re expressing violent things, in a physical way. And people react to that, which is wonderful, which is fantastic.”

The band have also shared the video for "So Long", their recently released single, an extravagant and catchy slice of modern post-punk, full of rugged noise and crushing melodies. The video was directed by the band and Maicol Guidetti (Common Wild Pigs).

Leatherette explain: "We usually have a laugh and talk about this song as our dad-rock(est) work. That is why we decided to make a video visually inspired by Guitar Hero. Even though the song talks about suicide, it does so in an optimistic, light at the end of the tunnel kind of way". In their self-made video "Andrea, our (real) guitar hero, represents the music, the hope and energy that comes out of the creative process. The other 4 members instead, dressed in black and emotionless, represent the song's lyrics, at times sad and nihilistic. As the video progresses, the 4 birds of ill omen slowly disappear, leaving the guitarist standing and playing until the end. Life is a game worth playing, isn't it?"

Leatherette are, by their own description, “five shy guys who sometimes get off the stage and punch people,” a quintet whose car-crash of jagged noise, twisted love and dark, anguished melody has delivered a remarkable – and eminently combustible – debut album.

The group are based in Bologna, but all hail from different towns in Italy. These five young men – singer/guitarist Michele, bassist Marco, drummer Francesco, guitarist Andrea and saxophonist Jacopo – are united by a profound need to make music, to express themselves naturally and honestly.

The band bonded over wildly differing influences – everything from midwestern emo gods American Football, to Berlin-era Bowie, to James Chance & The Contortions, to rap and electronic music – to create a dense, passionate, articulate sound of their own.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for "So Long", below.

A Shoreline Dream Unleash New Single/Video "Loveblind"

Denver,Colorado post-punk-gaze trio A Shoreline Dream have unleashed the video for their latest single "Loveblind".

The song serves as the title track of their upcoming sixth full length album 'Loveblind', set to be released September 23 via Latenight Weeknight Records. Pre-order your copy here.

The album dives into the recollections and desires of the past while gazing in a wash of sound waves pointed towards a blinding future.

“The title track is a true representation of the observation and realization that so many of us are lost in a sea of past visions of love. Waiting for it to return, forgetting it’s gone in some cases, and searching for it within ourselves. With so much self-reflection happening these days, it’s difficult to realize that the ones we’ve cared for need “love” now more than ever to successfully find their way out of personal storms,” says frontman Ryan Policky.

“The production is indeed much darker than many previous A Shoreline Dream tracks, but also one heavily influenced by some of my biggest influences from the early years of goth and gaze-inspired music. An orchestra of deeper tones, with an emphasis on traditional composition and symphonic execution. Extreme highs, and hidden lows centered around a pop focused tempo.”

China Steps Unveil Debut Single/Video "American Life"

Leeds indie band China Steps have unveiled their debut single "American Life", and its accompanying music video.

The track was produced by Chris Mulligan of W.H. Lung. Formed in early 2021, China Steps bring together five well-versed musicians of Leeds’ bustling music scene, with shared members in Eades, Drahla, Genie Genie and Van Houten. The group came together over their shared love of nineties and early noughties American bands like Heatmiser, Red House Painters, Duster, Deerhunter and Women, and channeling this musical inspiration helped the five-piece beat back against the uncontrollable monotony and uncertainty of lockdown life, all while honing in on their songwriting skills to create an infectious guitar-driven sound. 'American Life' features a driving bassline, layered guitars and atmospheric flourishes that sit as a bed for observational lyrics that dig into the darker sides of human nature.

The band say of the track: "The theme behind 'American Life' is ‘Schadenfreude,’ the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another. This felt very apt for the time we wrote it correlating to the time we were living in at that point with Covid ongoing and Trump in power in the States."

Other influences on the lyrics come from American humorist David Sedaris’s When you Are Engulfed in Flames, which touches on the absurdity just below the surface of everyday life, John Berger’s Ways of Seeing, and the black and white photography guitarist/vocalist Thomas Barr was taking at the time: “picture the film / a person, black and white / a path, a doorway to light / perspective of the mind”.

The Church Return With New Single/Video "The Hypnogogue"

Australian psychedelic/alt-rock band The Church have returned with their new single "The Hypnogogue" and its accompanying music video.

Speaking about it, frontman Steve Kilbey says: "I don’t think this song has any predecessor in our history at all. The Hypnogogue is set in 2054, a dystopian and broken down future. Invented by Sun Kim Jong, a North Korean scientist and occult dabbler. It is a machine and a process that pulls music straight of the dreams."

"The song is about Eros Zeta, the biggest rock star of 2054 who has travelled from his home in Antarctica (against his manager's advice) to use the Hypnogogue to help him revive his flagging fortunes," he also falls in love with Sun Kim and it all ends tragically (of course...as these thing often do)."

It’s about looking around and realising that you’ve come much further than you think and that maybe everyone else feels the same.” “It was the first track that we wrote for the album and was the one that guided where we were going. Telefís Air New Single "The Age Of Cling feat. Will Sergeant"

Telefís
, the groundbreaking collaboration between two Irish iconoclasts – acclaimed producer Garret “Jacknife” Lee (U2, REM, The Killers) and revered singer/lyricist Cathal Coughlan – have aired their new single “The Age Of Cling”.

The song is taken from their upcoming album 'a Dó' (set to arrive on October 7th) and is the first of two tracks on the album that feature a guest appearance from Will Sergeant, legendary guitarist and songwriter of Echo & The Bunnymen.

The album was finished several months prior to the sad passing of Cathal Coughlan on May 18th earlier this year. Telefís is Irish for Television and pronounced Tel-eh-feesh. It’s also a nod to the post-punk heroes of the late 70s that dwell in Jacknife and Cathal’s collective consciousness. Their first transmission arrived last Autumn with the twisted electro-funk of “We Need”, a cheeky and satirical look back to the early days of TV in Ireland and the memory fragments of their youth. But as with all of Cathal’s lyrics, there are contemporary lines drawn to today’s power structures and hierarchies. Flights of the imagination ensuring that nothing is ever quite what it may appear.

The Burma Reveal New Single "Hard To Say"

Irish indie rock band The Burma have revealed their new single "Hard To Say".

The song is taken from their their forthcoming album 'Sucker For Stars', which is set for release on the 14th of Octobe via The Burma Music. Grab it here.

The band takes its name from The Burma Steps in Cobh, Co. Cork, Ireland. Its members are  Tony O’Donovan (on vocals) and Peter Piggott (on guitar) who are both from Cobh as well as Cian Doherty (on drums) who is from Doolin Co. Clare. Drawing inspiration from The Strokes, Tame Impala and Daft Punk, the band has created a signature sound comparable to Glass Animals, MGMT and Foster the People.

Hard to Say’ is an anthemic, young-hearted single that expresses the spirit of causeless rebellion and the invincibility of youth. Exchanging rules for raw excitement, thrashing riffs and hammering drums push to the limit. The single is a heart-racing rush of memories, captured in flashes of polaroid-perfect choruses. After all, the young are taking over the world, and The Burma is showing them the way one rowdy lyric at a time.

The Burma gives us insight into the single: “We wrote ‘Hard to Say’ in our late teens/early twenties. There's youthful angst evident in the lyrics. Our love for this song is demonstrated by the fact that it made it on to our new album,  despite being a song from our formative years as a band. It's an explosive song that has never left our live set since the first time we played it.”

Dendrons Unleash New Single/Video "High In The Circle K"

Chicago-based post punk/alt band Dendrons have unleashed the video for their new single "High In The Circle K".

The song is taken from their forthcoming second full-length album '5-3-8', out today, August 26 via Innovative Leisure. Grab your copy here

High In The Circle K features bombastic grooves, and wiry, spindly guitar lines delivered over a bed of often monotone vocal delivery, segueing into a cathartic, two-minute climax of hypnotic guitar work.

Speaking about the track, Dane Jarvie of the band says: "The album's namesake comes from one of the repeated lines/mantras in this song: “Fifths, thirds, octaves only” — almost as an appeal for a sort of utopian ideal. A dumb simplification. A desirable reduction. The video for the song was crafted by Montreal-based artist and animator, Liam Hamilton, who uniquely blends bizarro computer-generated environments with shifting, hand-drawn, contortionist figures--all coming in and out of focus as the song progresses."

Manic Street Preachers Unveil Previously Unheard Song 'Studies In Paralysis'

Welsh rock trio Manic Street Preachers have unveiled a previously unreleased track called "Studies In Paralysis".

The song is taken from the reimagined version of their 6th album ‘Know Your Enemy’, which will be released on September 9 via Columbia/Sony. Grab your copy here.

'Studies in Paralysis' was recorded at Miloco Studios in London but left off the original 2001 release. It has remained unearthed until now and is available on the entirely remixed and reconstructed

The song, which Nicky Wire incorrectly remembered as being released as a b-side to one of the album's four singles, is a red raw rock'n'roll song with a none-more-classic Manics title celebrating the blankness and inertia that comes with the loss of belief.

The video for 'Studies In Paralysis' was directed by Kieran Evans, he explains how it came about:

"It started with an email from Wire (it always does!).  Would I be up for working on visualising two unheard tracks from the 'Know Your Enemy' sessions that were to feature in the beautifully expanded and reworked re-issue of the album?  Of course I would!  Both 'Rosebud' and 'Studies In Paralysis' landed an hour later and were stunning and took my breath away. Fuck me...They left these off the original album...what were they thinking???!!!

An hour later, another email landed from him - "I'll send some DV footage of the Miloco sessions up to you". But this footage was very different from previous recording sessions he'd filmed. There was a seriousness to everyone's behaviour and recording performances. There was no frivolity or funny off camera 'moments'. The atmosphere felt intense, you could feel the pressure they were under.

Cutting this footage to 'Studies in Paralysis' was a task. I went through many iterations and edits to get the right "feel" to reflect what is a truly glorious song... Thankfully...I think we definitely got there in the end".

“There’s a lot of themes of feeling at home and finding your feet as an adult, which relates to the way that I feel at home with my family and the journey that I’ve been on since I’ve left home.” Jenna adds of the EP. “Also of finding your way in life, navigating relationships and friendships and as you grow, realising which ones weren’t for you and which ones you are better off without.”

“I thought writing a piece of music about something I’m unfamiliar with would be a fun exercise. That later translated into ‘Silent Films,’ which goes into what the lyrics portray. Late Cambrian Share New Single/Video "It's Always Something"

Brooklyn future-pop/indie-rock duo Late Cambrian have shared the video for their new single "It's Always Something".

The song is taken from their upcoming new album 'Future Snacks', set to be released on September 23rd on Mifflin Street Music. Get it here.

On their new album Future Snacks, John Wlaysewski and Olive Hui—the creative and romantic partnership behind the Brooklyn-based future-pop/indie-rock duo Late Cambrian—have crafted a work of art that explores the many facets of modern social consciousness while still giving listeners a reason to dance. From the fear of impending technocracy and corporate-sponsored nostalgia to the uncertainty of the future and long-term emotional effects of the pandemic, Future Snacks is a record that is concerned with ideas and questions, with the acceptance that answers may be hard to find.

Future Snacks is both musically and thematically diverse while never feeling derivative or out-of-control, an impressive feat that is largely testament to the unique partnership between Wlaysewski and Hui. The record was recorded in Wlaysewski and Hui’s Brooklyn apartment, with Wlaysewski acting as the primary songwriter, producer and arranger, and Hui acting as a production consultant and editor while also contributing vocals, lyrics, and keys throughout the record.

“I played 98% of the music on this record, but Olive’s input is so important,” says Wlaysewski. “When we write, Olive plumbs the depths of her unorganized imagination and then I try to organize those ideas into something that has rhythm and melody. I tend to be more rational, which drives the sound of the songs, but then sometimes some barriers need to be broken, and that’s where Olive comes in.”

“Future Snacks started almost as an intellectual pursuit, trying to capture the feeling of a few of our earlier songs on something new,” says Wlaysewski. “It’s kind of like our past life meeting our current life,” adds Hui.
