Dog Race Release Music Video For "Terror"

Bedford post punk/alt band Dog Race have released the video for their latest single "Terror".

The song, was produced by Jessica Winter (Pregoblin, Jazmin Bean) and mixed by Jon McMullen (Wet Leg, The Comet Is Coming), is part of our current playlist and came out last month (August 15). Grab it here.

Terror intertwines darkness and light – from the gothic intonations of Katie’s vocals, through to the looping, cyclical warmth of the guitar lines and creeping synths. Frantic, melodic, ever-engaging, “Terror” was one of the first songs written by the band, and was recorded pre-pandemic – they’ve had to wait, an embryonic band suspended in stasis like so many others, safe in the knowledge they had something special on their hands.

Vocalist Katie Healy explained: “Terror was written during a time of DPDR and anxiety episodes where I would frequently wake up screaming in the night due to night terrors. I tried to encapsulate something that spoke of a period of turmoil but important growth in my early 20’s, an experimental experience where I thought if I’d embrace these night terrors instead of hiding from them in the hope I could put them to rest completely.”

SPLLIT Unveil Two-Track Single "Ledder Cote / Adobe House"

Baton Rouge, Louisiana art punk/experimental band SPLLIT have unveiled their new two-track single  "Ledder Cote / Adobe House".

The band explained: If we are proud to have an artifact in our odd catalog of bizarre beauties, that's SPLLIT's debut album, released last year on Feel It Records, where these angulars Baton Rouge alligators already made it clear with their first aptly titled single, "Next Level Music", that in music not everything has been invented... Far from it! The only difference between this surprising duo and most of the line-ups who try to perform such acrobatics, is that few bands manage to do it in such an instant, catchy, groovy... And above all unique way, something that is even more enervating with these two new tracks in which they prove their ability to surpass themselves... And now you can call this Post-punk, no wave, new wave... Or whatever you want, we prefer to call it SPLLIT sound!

"A tribute to the adobe house in Presidio, TX where we wrote and recorded for a few days around the new year, 2020-2021. Also serves as a bonus to "Spllit Sides" and as the start of something new."

Ledder Cote was recorded January 2021 in Baton Rouge, LA using the "Presidio method" of drum loop composition.

The recording for Adobe House, began December 2020 in Presidio, TX and was completed July 2022 in Baton Rouge, LA

High Vis Unleash New Single "0151"

London post punk band High Vis have unleashed their new single "0151".

The song is taken from their forthcoming sophomore album 'Blending', set to be released on September 30th via DAIS Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Titled after the landline dialling code for Liverpool / Merseyside, frontman Graham Sayle explains – “With the backdrop of a decade of austerity and neglect, ‘0151’ is a song about the power of collective identity. Written after my uncle passed away during the pandemic, the song was inspired by tales of life as a ship builder and the subsequent decline of the industry in the North of England; a song about the landscape and communities from my formative years and our current socio-economic situation.”

Bassist Rob Moss adds, “Liverpool is a city familiar with the receipt of bad news. Old grief within the North West breeds in its most mild form an inherited skepticism of authority. A scalable requirement to be outwardly disruptive and inwardly sensitive. A low key connectivity built through regional endurance. For me the song is about struggle and resilience against policies of social and economic abandonment.”

Italia 90 Announce Debut LP 'Living Human Treasure', Stream "Leisure Activities"

London art punk/avant-punk band Italia 90 have announced the release of their debut full-length album 'Living Human Treasure'.

The 11-track record will be out on January 20th via Brace Yourself Records. Pre-order your copy here.

Across the album, tracks from the band’s earliest days (New Factory, Competition) sit side by side with newer tracks, in a breadth of new styles for the band. "We consciously drew on elements from other genres, like new wave, goth rock, post-hardcore, jazz, jungle and ranchera that have inspired us but which we hadn't incorporated into our music previously”.

Regarding new single Leisure Activities, the band offer the following "Leisure Activities is a response to the tendency of countless modern bands who identify as, or are described as political, when their commentary amounts to little more than mundane descriptions of British life or sneering caricatures of an idle working class entirely of their invention. The fact that these groups seem to have far more hostility towards the apparently ordinary people they describe than the state or economic conditions that created them speaks volumes."

To record the album, the band decamped to the residential Echo Zoo studio in Eastbourne. With five days booked – far longer than the band had ever recorded for in the past – the whole album was tracked within two days with producer Louis Milburn. For the rest of the allotted time, they explored the nooks and crannies of the building and the bounty of unusual instruments lying around to add mystical textures to the bones of the songs.

Italia 90's songs aim to be timeless. Like the painting on the album’s cover, which shows a crowd of people all facing away from the viewer, the idea of the collective takes precedence over the individual. “I care deeply about the things that I’m singing about,” says singer, Les Miserable, “but I don’t think that it needs to be me that is saying it. I have my point of view, and think that the ideology that I’m forwarding in the songs is correct, and very important, but it’s not important that it’s me saying them. If I did, I would already be contradicting the things that I am saying in the songs.”

Across the record, the band step off the relentless, exhausting hamster wheel and create something fantastic with the abundance of ingredients already here, pointing a different way forwards.

I LIKE TRAINS Air New Single/Video "The Spectacle"

Leeds-based alternative rock trailblazers I LIKE TRAINS have aired their new single "The Spectacle", alongside an accompanying music video.

The song is out now and is the band's first new material since the 2020 album 'KOMPROMAT'. Get it  here.

The band words: It’s a miracle! We’ve recorded, mixed, mastered and released a track in almost exactly one month. Unheard of in I LIKE TRAINS’ extensive history. And yet… it’s already out of date.

Here’s our ode to Boris. Specifically, the line we were fed by him and his cronies, that despite all of the scandals ‘he delivered’. And somehow, that’s his legacy sorted. Somehow.

‘The Spectacle’ is a standalone single. Part of the KOMPROMAT world, but not quite closure. There’s more where Boris came from. It’s accompanied by another jaunty walk through modern history by Michael Connolly, the architect of all the KOMPROMAT artwork and videos. We’d recommend viewing it with your eyes.
