Walt Disco Announce Debut LP 'Unlearning', Stream "How Cool Are You?"

Glasgow post punk/glam band Walt Disco have announced the release of their debut full-length album 'Unlearning'.

The 12-track record will be out on April 1st through Lucky Number. Pre-order your copy here.

Walt Disco are a collection of misfits from Glasgow who look like they've just been turned away from the Blitz club by Steve Strange and are standing in the rain wondering what to do. Their music is dramatic synth pop that owes a lot to the likes of Sparks and The Associates and a little more to Gary Numan and Visage.

Unlearning is steeped in metamorphoses, a stage show in two acts. It covers flings and romances, identities and bodies and change, profound familial love, and - of course - Hollywood glamour. The album plays out like a musical, with an emotional arc and even an instrumental interlude, winkingly titled ‘The Costume Change’.

While the themes of the album are universally relatable, Walt Disco’s gift is in the unique experience of discovery and heartbreak between queer people - something that frontperson James explores in depth on songs such as ‘Weightless’, ‘Be An Actor’ and ‘Hold Yourself As High As Her’. In Walt Disco’s eyes, it’s never too late to become what you might have been and there are plenty of possibilities to explore on Unlearning.

Check out the album's tracklist and the video for their new single "How Cool Are You?", below.

Unlearning Track list:
01. Weightless
02. Selfish Lover

Watch: Franz Ferdinand Unveil New Single/Video "Curious"

Scottish indie rockers Franz Ferdinand have unveiled the video for their new single "Curious".

The song is taken from their forthcoming greatest hits collection 'Hits To The Head', which will be out 11 March 2022 via Domino Record Co. Pre-order your copy here.

Talking about the song, lead singer Alex Kapranos said: "What’s the meaning behind the song? A meet-cute on the first page as tension enters left on a dark stage, but as our stars collide I’m curious: will you want me when you’ve got me? I’m a future seeker. Are we the future? I’m curious. I had this idea for the lyric — kind of the reverse of one of those life-flashing-before-your mind as you die in a film scene, where the entire course of a relationship flashes before you the instant you fall in love with someone."

About the video, he added: "So, it's a dance song we said later on when thinking about a video. And 'we've always said we play dance music,' said Bob, 'so why don't we dance in the video?' So we gave Andy Knowles, our old pal - who was in Bob's class at Art School and played with Franz Ferdinand in 2005/6 - a shout and he was up for it. You can spot his cameo.... and, yes, that is us actually dancing."

Blossoms Announce New LP 'Ribbon Around The Bomb', Stream Title Track

Manchester indie rock/psych pop band Blossoms have announced the release of their new album titled 'Ribbon Around The Bomb'.

The follow up to their 2018's album Cool Like You, was produced by James Skelly & Rich Turvey and  will be released on 29th April on Virgin EMI. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about the new album and single, Blossoms frontman Tom Ogden said: "While on tour in 2019 in Mexico, I visited Frida Kahlo’s house. Looking at her paintings on show, someone had described one of them as being like a ‘ribbon around a bomb’. I immediately thought that it was a great title for a song and album because of the imagery that it evoked in my mind. I thought about how lots of things in life could be described as being a ribbon around a bomb in the sense that as people we often dress things up which have a darkness lying beneath them".

“The more songs I wrote, the more I realised that the writer referenced in the songs was in fact me,” Ogden continues. “Having been so busy for the past eight years I and the band have never really had the chance to step back and reflect on what we’ve achieved. You’re so focused on the future; write the next album then tour. Your life is usually mapped out at least two years in advance.”

01. The Writer's Theme
