New Entry: The New Division Shares New Single "Nosedive"

LA-based new wave/synthpop/electronic artist John Glenn Kunkel aka The New Division has shared his new single "Nosedive".

The song is out now via Division 87 Records and is taken from his forthcoming full-length effort. Featuring soaring synths, driven vocals, and Cure-nodding guitars, "Nosedive" ventures into epic sonic territory familiar to fans of LA-based producer, John Kunkel.

"Nosedive was inspired by the stock market's ups and downs, and how that could play out in a violent way. If I had to pin-point it visually to one film, it'd have to be American Psycho as the protagonist in this song is loosely based on Patrick Bateman," Kunkel states. "As long-time fans of The New Division might already know, I'm often drawn to lyrics that touch on the darker side of human nature. There's something interesting about how words in that context come across when paired with dark melodies."

New Entry: Jesse D'Kora Reveals New Single "to boldly go"

UK-based dream pop/lo-fi/indie artist Jesse D'Kora (aka Dan Parker from Juliper Sky and Affairs) has revealed his new single "to boldly go".

From Jesse: Inspired by memories of being a kid sitting watching Star Trek: The Next Generation on the sofa with my Dad, this a tribute to my younger self who used to hide that I was a fan in fear I would get called a nerd. I think it's time to embrace the nerd.

Musically it mixes dreamy and other world sounds and effects with some silly tongue in cheek lyrics. It has the usual jangly guitar tones but now paired with a kilter drum pattern - something a little new from me. It’s a familiar sound with a new sheen.

Watch: Pastel Unleash New Single/Video "Isaiah"

British indie/brit rock band Pastel have unleashed their brand new single "Isaiah".

The song is the title track of their forthcoming second EP 'Deeper Than Holy', which will be available  in September via Manchester indie label Spirit of Spike Island. Get it here.

An emotive reflection of a tumultuous upbringing, ‘Isaiah’ encapsulates everything that Pastel excel at as they blend hazy shoegaze ambience with sonorous strings, shimming touches of John Squire’s intricate yet free-flowing guitar work and hints of The Verve’s aptitude for transcendence. It demonstrates that Pastel have the ambition to push their anthemic core sound into a far more expansive realm, further highlighting both the scope of their sound and their immense potential.

Pastel duo, cousins Jack (lead vocals) and James Yates (rhythm guitar), commented, "We had pretty tough childhoods, surrounded by drug addiction. Sadness, madness and badness. ‘Isaiah’ wasn’t actually written with any of that in mind, but our feelings seem to have soaked through us into the song subconsciously. Sometimes when you’re deep in hard times you become numb to it all. ‘I can feel nothing more, in this life that I’ve suffered for.’ But this tune is not about wallowing in self-pity. It’s about using our experiences as motivation; having some hope and self-belief!"
