Stephen Mallinder Airs "Shock to the Body" New Video

Brighton, UK musician Stephen Mallinder, co-founder and frontman of the iconic Cabaret Voltaire, has aired the video for "Shock to the Body".

The song is part of our current playlist and is taken from his second solo album 'tick tick tick', which came out last month (July 15) via Dais Records, grab it here.

Channeling the temporal malaise of lockdown through a lusher palette of modular electronics and stereo strings, the songs embrace ambiguity and plasticity, loose systems of percolating circuitry and airless funk. Recorded across a handful of sessions at MemeTune Studios in Cornwall with frequent collaborator Benge (aka Ben Edwards), Mallinder cites no guiding aesthetic premise for the collection beyond “cowbell on every track, and entirely no reverb.”

Ghost Car Announce Debut LP 'Truly Trash', Stream "Conch Pearl"

London-based international punk quartet Ghost Car have announced the release of their debut album ‘Truly Trash’.

The riotous, quick-witted collection of 11 garage-rock bangers will be released on October 28th via One Little Independent Records. Pre-order your copy here.

The album provides Ghost Car with a platform to rage against political injustices, as their unified harmonies attack patriarchal inequality, homophobia, racism and toxic relationships. ‘Truly Trash’ is a call to reclaim autonomy and to revolt against the powers that uphold an archaic nationalist system.

The jumped-up chaos of their glorious new single ‘Conch Pearl’ perfectly matches its B-movie style visual, by upcoming videographer Cath Shayler. She says that “Ghost Car become collectively entranced by a mysterious pearl object. Obsession quickly turns to possession as the pearl transforms into an all-encompassing hypnotic orb”.

The band describe ‘Conch Pearl’ as “a feminist commentary on women/queer community being ‘shrunk down’ to fit a mould. The idea of a conch shell closing up, closing yourself off to the world vs opening up. We wanted to use the obsession with the pearl to represent the possession that is sometimes manifested towards women, something all of us have experienced first-hand at some point in our lives”.

Right out the gate ‘Truly Trash’ makes its intentions clear. Raw intensity builds toward blistering, riff-heavy noise-outs while frenzied synth drags the sound in a 60’s psych direction. Call-and-response gang vocals permeate the entire record as back-to-back choruses keep energy levels at maximum, boasting huge glam guitars and caustic drums of pure fury.

“This album is our way to express what bothers us, from personal interactions to international politics. We wanted to explore different themes in a simple way so that they could be accessible to everyone.”

DEADLETTER Premiere New Single/Video "Binge"

Yorkshire post punk band DEADLETTER have premiered their new single "Binge", alongside an accompanying music video.

The song is out today (Aug 18) through SO Recordings. Get it here.

‘Binge’ was musically spawned from the depths of a long London winter, with little sunlight and little joy. It is the sound of various excesses cyclically incubating then emerging in a world geared towards constant satiation of desire, but with a hungry black hole at its centre which seems to only grow the more it is fed. Whether through devotion to a deity or stamp collecting, as humans we are all desperate to feed the emptiness festering at the intersection of sentience and instinct. Thus, we binge.

On the track singer Zac Lawrence said, “Binge was written in no more than 25 minutes during rehearsals for a tour in January. Using our usual formula of “drumbeat, bassline, lyrics, seasoning” it was quickly realised that we had to include it in our coming live shows and record it without further ado. Sometimes the energy of a track’s just there, you don’t have to think about it for a year.”

Zac adds, “Hearing the word Binge, we may initially be drawn to a very specific image or thought of a person or a habit, however when we take a closer look at society it can be realised that bingeing is inherent within our behaviour as human beings. Whether it be something as mundane as collecting stamps, or devotion of your existence to a deity, we are all bingers through and through and, ultimately, life is one long binge.”

Vincent Christ Unveils Music Video For "I See Jets"

London indie rock/new wave/glam/post-punk artist Vincent Christ has unveiled  the video for his latest single "I See Jets".

The song is part of our current playlist and came out last week (August 11). Get it here.

Vincent explains: "I wrote the song after a dream I had about Alan Vega from the band Suicide. In the dream we were walking to a Mediterranean town down a long, winding hillside. Everything was orange and sunbaked. We talked as we walked and stopped to watch a game of basketball. I think we were walking to somewhere where we were supposed to perform later on, but we never got there. There was a heavy sense of paranoia in the dream. That feeling, as well as some of the things Alan said, inspired the lyrics and set the tone for this track."
