Hatcham Social Share "Hypnotise Terrible Eyes (Baxter Dury version)"

London art pop/indie rock outfit Hatcham Social have shared the video for "Hypnotise Terrible Eyes (Baxter Dury version)".

Made to celebrate the release of the We Are The Weirdos 'career spanning' LP via the legendary Fierce Panda out March 2022. The song was originally recorded in West London with Baxter Dury as a test for album sessions for their debut album but unfortunately it was never released, although the band always loved it and Baxter. When going through ideas for the compilation they found it on an old hard drive and so it finally found its way out to the world!

The video features a football scarf made by the political art collective Partisan Social Club, Mel Jordan and Andy Hewitt which states 'Make All Capitalists Labourers'. The video also features footage and images from the 'Flip Video' camera taken during touring and recording the records between 2009-2015.

Check out the video below.

New Entry: Media Giant Premiere New Single "Guilt/Shame"

London art pop/alt band Media Giant have premiered their new single "Guilt/Shame".

The song, written and produced by the trio, is out now through Brace Yourself Records, and is the follow up to their debut single 'Afraid of The Dark'. Get it here.

UPDATE 01/02/2022: "Guilt/Shame" is our new Single of the Week!

A statement from Media Giant HQ reads simply: At Media Giant, we know what you want. Since the successful launch of our debut product, we have been working tirelessly to bring you our second offering, which is titled “Guilt/Shame” - You may notice feelings of hostility or anger when listening to it, but do not be alarmed, this is entirely intentional."

Drawing on funk, disco and punk elements, their music is reminiscent of Bowie, Talking Heads and The Rapture, all while creating a deeply unique, daring sound of their own that separates them from their peers.

The crossover experimentations and hook-driven melodies of 'Guilt/Shame' make for a thrilling listening experience. Its philosophical lyrics are drenched in playful irony, further elevated by the cheery sound that contradicts its darker societal observations: "Is it guilt or is it shame, that keeps us from killing each other, that keeps us sane? / You'd rather die of a sun-tan, in a plastic wasteland, than admit you were wrong about anything."

Field Music Announce New LP 'Flat White Moon', Stream "No Pressure"

Sunderland, UK indie rock/art pop band Field Music have announced the release of their eighth studio album 'Flat White Moon'.

The follow-up to 2020's Making A New World, will be out released via Memphis Industries on April 23, featuring their latest song "Orion From The Street", and the new single "No Pressure". Pre-order your copy here.

"We want to make people feel good about things that we feel terrible about." says David Brewis, who has co-led the band Field Music with his brother Peter since 2004.

Sporadic sessions for the album began in late 2019 at the pair's studio in Sunderland, slotted between rehearsals and touring. The initial recordings pushed a looser performance aspect to the fore, inspired by some of their very first musical loves; Free, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles; old tapes and LPs pilfered from their parents' shelves. But a balance between performance and construction has always been an essential part of Field Music.

By March 2020, recording had already begun for most of the album's tracks and, with touring for Making A New World winding down, Peter and David were ready to plough on and finish the record.

The playfulness that’s evident in much of Flat White Moon's music became a way to offset the darkness and the sadness of many of the lyrics. Much of the album is plainly about loss and grief, and also about the guilt and isolation which comes with that.

About the new single  David Brewis says, “The song is like a mirror image of ‘Under Pressure’, but if that was about ‘people on the street’, this is mostly from the perspective of someone up on high insisting that nothing is his fault while the rest of us scratch around trying to hold things together.”

On Flat White Moon Field Music take on the challenge of representing negative emotions in a way that doesn't dilute or obscure them but which can still uplift. The result is a generous record of bounteous musical ideas, in many ways Field Music's most immediately gratifying to date.

Paisley art pop four-piece The Vegan Leather have dropped the video for their latest single "Gloaming".

The song is part of our current playlist and came out last month (Oct 30). Get it here.

From the band: "When we first started writing 'Gloaming' it sounded quite dark and mysterious. It reminded me of the atmosphere set in the moors of Wuthering Heights. A big part of the book is set in wild and untamed landscapes and that inspired the meaning behind the song. It became a bit of monologue of enticing someone into the wilderness with you."

New Entry: Field Music Reveal New Single "Money Is a Memory"

Sunderland, UK indie rock/art pop band Field Music have revealed their new single "Money Is a Memory".

The song is taken from 'Making a New World', their upcoming 19-track concept album about the historical echoes of World War I inspired by the collection of the Imperial War Museum in London, which will hit the stores on January 20th via Memphis Industries. Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about it, they explain: "The whole album is really about consequences, and how the consequences of that war are still with us. Money Is A Memory is probably the most explicit example of that - decisions that were made a hundred years ago still casting a shadow. The initial premise is a bit comical - the admin assistant going through their bureaucratic duties - but buried away inside those papers you can imagine the echoes of millions of lives being turned upside down."

Operator Music Band Announce New LP 'Duo Duo', Stream "Slim Spin"

Brooklyn-based art-pop/krautrock band Operator Music Band have announce the release of their sophomore album titled 'Duo Duo'.

The 10-track record will be out September 20 via Broken Circles Records. Pre-order your copy here.

There’s a song on the record called “Nul,” a Priests by way of Deerhoof post-punk boogie, in which singer/guitarist Jared Hiller and his synth-wizard co-vocalist Dara Hirsch trade philosophical musings about the concept of time. “We are infinite so / reality is a matter of choice” is how Hiller chooses to wrap it up, a solution that may relieve his existential anxiety, but only poses more questions in the process. Lyrically, the band have an insatiable curiosity for the unknown, an itch to explore the ways humans communicate with each other and the world around us—to understand our societal limits in order to expand them. And Duo Duo fosters that sense of wonder through its hypnotizing breed of forward-thinking krautrock.

Hirsch’s radiant voice glides, and her colorful Moog melodies dance, atop the rubbery grooves of “Practical Action” and “Income/Outcome,” respectively. The blub-blub-blub bass of “Trippple” bubbles to the surface, where a clacking percussive strike skids across the rhythm and Hirsch delivers a quirkier version of her already-peculiar intonation. “Slim Spin” opens the record with a gush of iridescent synths before collapsing back into a taut, minimalist bassline. Highly meticulous and unconventionally structured swells like that are Operator Music Band’s wheelhouse, as they close the record with a one-two of the mesmerizingly driving (“The Gift”) and the surreally funky (“Juice”), each of which showcase their climactic proclivities.

The name Duo Duo suggests a pair is present. It could be referencing Hirsch and Hiller’s striking chemistry. Or the way those two sound so locked into the rhythm section that they can write parts that drift in and out of sync—like a scrimmage match between members of the same team. Or maybe it’s a commentary on our own infinities, and the choice that is inherent to every quandary we’re faced with. Whatever the real reference may be, Operator Music Band make music for both moments of intense theorization and mindlessly euphoric dance seshes.

Check out the album's tracklist and listen to new single "Slim Spin" below.

Duo Duo Tracklisting:
01. Slim Spin
02. Mondo
03. Nul
04. Practical Action
05. Income Outcome
06. Fiji
07. Trippple

09. The Gift
10. Juice

Watch: Artbreak Unveil Music Video For New Single "Soda Can"

London new wave/indie/art pop band Artbreak have unveiled the video for their catchy new single "Soda Can".

The song, produced by Tony Visconti (Morrissey, Bowie, T-Rex) at Visconti Studios in Kingston, will be out on May 18 via Wall of Sound.

‘Soda Can’ is a spiky art pop anthem, reflecting on the world of shrinks and neurosis, a whirlwind of emotions, angular riffs and crunching guitars offset by soaring, passionate vocals and pop melodies swathed in tension and vulnerability. Performed live in one take, this is raw and full of feeling, with elements that reference post punk, new wave and even new romanticism but combine them into something fresh and previously unheard.\

The band have been together for just 18 months and it is no surprise that their live shows kick up a storm, as Cole’s bold and powerful vocals lend a heart on sleeve honesty, absorbing everything from Wiley to The Clash, Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Frank Ocean. Artbreak is made up of Cole Salewicz (Vocals), Josh Miles (Guitar and Vocals) , Benjy Miles (Guitar), Tom Williams (Bass and Vocals), Harry Pike (Drums).
