From the band:  “The song is kind of an inner debate between two opposing voices of a conflicted self-conscience over how to cope through these chaotic times. One side balances a process of disengagement, of “letting go” of anger, resentment and fear by detaching oneself from the news cycle, and social media and journeying towards inner peace in a more spiritual way. The other side argues for staying socially and political engaged, staying tuned in and turned on and leaning into the fiery activist energy and fighting this noble fight. Can both sides co-exist? Can you find a balance? Whats healthier? Whats fair?.”

Toronto based art-dance sibling trio Doomsquad, have unveiled the video for their new single "Dorian's Closet".

From the band:  “Dorian Corey was at the heart of the NYC ballroom / vogue scene in the early 80s. She was a role-model and matriarchal figure for a lot of queer POC youth. When she passed away, due to AIDS, they discovered a mummified body in her closet dating back to 15 years ago. The body was of an ex-con who was believed to be a controlling and abusive ex-lover, and she carried the body around with her from apartment to apartment over all those years.”

“We wanted to tell a much softer and gentler story about a drag queen. One where drag culture has become fully normalised and accepted by society. Where people can feel safe and empowered leaving the house in the middle of the afternoon in drag and carrying out normal day-to-day tasks. Removing the idea around drag culture being exclusively for the night, and carried out in ballrooms, and clubs.”

Toronto based art-dance sibling trio Doomsquad, have announced the release of their new album 'Let Yourself Be Seen'.

Due for release on May 10th through Bella Union, Let Yourself Be Seen is the most assertive, ambitious, groove-sodden declaration of intent yet from Trevor, Jaclyn and Allie Blumas: the sound of dance floor believers and thinkers firing on all personal and political fronts, at a time when we need it most. Richly steeped in the influences of acid house, West African disco, spiritual jazz, NYC no-wave and new-age ambient music, Let Yourself Be Seen hums with a sense of vigorous, invigorating purpose. New single "General Hum" sends out a buoyant new-wave rallying cry for maximised engagement just when the world seems intent on stifling it. “Is there a place for spirit anymore?” it asks. Kicking in with a percussive bustle that all but defies you to try and stand still, ‘Aimless’ answers in the affirmative.

Midlake, Band of Horses, Franz Ferdinand, Travis, Supergroup BNQT Announce Debut Album, Stream "Restart"

BNQT, the new indie-supergroup formed by members of Midlake, Grandaddy, Band of Horses, Franz Ferdinand, and Travis, have announced they will release their debut album 'Volume 1.' on April 28 via Dualtone/Bella Union.

BNQT is conceived and led by Eric Pulido of Midlake and featuring Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Fran Healy of Travis, Jason Lytle of Grandaddy with backing from other Midlake members McKenzie Smith (drums), Joey McClellan (guitar) and Jesse Chandler (keys).

The concept of BNQT (pronounced “Banquet”) came to Pulido while touring for Midlake's 2013 release, 'Antiphon.' Gathering a number of contrasting yet complementary artists he’d befriended or shared the stage with, Pulido set out to establish a new creative environment untethered from other work – “Like a poor man’s version of the Traveling Wilburys!” he says.

"That's what art is about for me," Pulido continues, "creating with other people that you love and appreciate."

Mercury Rev Announce New Album 'The Light In You Details', Air "The Queen Of Swans"

Buffalo alt-rock/experimental/ band Mercury Rev have announced plans to released their eighth LP titled 'The Light In You' on September 18 through Bella Union. 

The album, is their first in seven years (it follows 2008's Snowflake Midnight), and it is also the first to be recorded without producer Dave Fridmann behind the controls, instead it has been produced by co-leaders Jonathan Donahue and Grasshopper.  

Donahue spoke about the seven-year gap between records in a statement. “It was one of those otherworldly life sequences, when everything you think is solid turns molten,” he said. “But also, when something is worth saying, it can take a long time to say it, rather than just blurt it out.”

The band have also debuted the album's first single "The Queen Of Swans". Check out the album's tracklist, and listen to the song below.

About the clip, lead singer Faith Vern said to The New York Times, is about “someone really upset and contemplating whether they wanted to live. By the end of it we wanted it to look like they were reborn and survived.” It features a lot of smoking and staring off into the distances, bubblebaths and a big glass of wine.
