Johnny Marr Reveals Two New Songs "Tenement Time" & "Sensory Street"

Johnny Marr, former guitarist of The Smiths and top indie legend, has revealed two new songs "Tenement Time" & "Sensory Street".

Both tracks are taken from his upcoming new EP 'Fever Dreams Pts 2', out on 17th December via BMG. Pre-order your copy here.

While the latter is “the story of a surreal 48 hours in subterranean England,” Marr says “Tenement Time” is inspired by “the experience of growing up in the inner city as a little kid, running around being quite wild. This idea of ‘Forever, forever is mine’ — it’s about running around Ardwick, bunking into warehouses and getting chased. That was the first time I was self-consciously into culture: around people who wore certain clothes, and it was part of being a little Manchester boy, really. I have a real romanticism about that period of my life.”

Johnny Marr Announces New Album 'Fever Dreams Pts 1-4'

Johnny Marr, former guitarist of The Smiths and top indie legend, has announced the release of his new album 'Fever Dreams Pts 1-4'.

Set to arrive on February 25, 2022 via BMG, the album reflects Johnny’s multifaceted past, but takes his music somewhere startlingly new. Pre-order your copy here.

Fever Dreams Pts 1-4; explores a multitude of concepts and themes. Because the wider world effectively shut down during its creation, Marr’s focus was pushed into both his interior life, and evoking the emotional and psychological states of others. “It’s an inspired record, and I couldn’t wait to get in and record every day,” he says. “But I had to go inwards.” As well as evoking the past and present, the album looks to the future, the idea that even in the most trying times, hope endures.

Written and recorded at the Crazy Face Factory over the last year, ‘Fever Dreams Pts 1-4’ was created with Marr’s long-standing band: co-producer Doviak, bassist Iwan Gronow, drummer Jack Mitchell, and features backing vocals throughout the album from the Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Meredith Sheldon, with three songs featuring bass from Primal Scream’s Simone Marie.

Johnny Marr Announces New EP 'Fever Dreams Pt 1', Shares "Spirit Power & Soul"

Johnny Marr, former guitarist of The Smiths and top indie legend, has announced the release of his new EP 'Fever Dreams Pt 1'.

Set to arrive on October 10, the 4-track EP reflects Johnny’s multifaceted past, but takes his music somewhere startlingly new. Pre-order it it here.

Informed by the kind of powerful, anthemic and direct approach to words instantly present in ‘Spirit, Power & Soul’, the songs on the ‘Fever Dreams Pt 1’ EP arrive with an emotional potency. Fusing the language of soul music with his roots as a “Mancunian glam rocker”, lyrics that could be simultaneously personal, universal, and subtly political, with a fantastically expansive sound.

New Entry: Johnny Marr Premieres New Single "The Bright Parade"

Johnny Marr, former guitarist of The Smiths and top indie legend, has premiered his new single "The Bright Parade".

On how shows like 'Love Island' inspired the track, Marr explained: "I think this track is more of a story. "'Armatopia' was this kind of eco-disco and I didn't want to hide that, but 'The Bright Parade' is more of a psychedelic musical track.

"Maybe I've been quite preoccupied with the cosmos over the last couple of years but it's the perfect metaphor for the star system - whether that's a rock star or a movie star or a reality TV star. I think half my mind was still in the cosmos and the other half was around these vacuous modern day reality stars.

"''The Bright Parade' puts the two together and puts it on top of a psychedelic backing track. But everything I'm doing as a musician and a creative person is some kind of reaction to what's going on in the world, if only as a way to escape. The act of getting in a studio and recording and making music with a band does feel a necessary escape from what's going on."

The song is out today (August 8). Grab it here, and stream it below.
