Watch: Bdrmm Reveal New Single/Video "Port"

Hull-based dream pop/psych/shoegaze band Bdrmm have revealed the video for their new single "Port".

The song, produced by Alex Greaves, will be out tomorrow (October 1st) via Sonic Cathedral. Get your copy here.

“‘Port’ is a realisation, created from the depths of insecurity, and knowing changes need to be made, but uncertain how to escape," says the band's Ryan Smith. "It’s claustrophobic. I don’t know how else to describe it. We have been working on this for what feels like an eternity, we’re so glad to finally be able to share what’s been happening with us – sonically as well as personally.”

Gel Set Announces New LP 'Tone Invasion', Airs "Next Exit"

L.A-based electronic/electro-pop/minimal synth project Gel Set (aka multimedia artist Laura Callier), has announced the release of her new studio album 'Tone Invasion'.

The follow-up to 2017’s captivating Body Copy, will be out on April 30. Pre-order your copy here.

Something about the crime of a home invasion feels especially sinister. The home, a person’s sacred temple from the cruel world, penetrated by an unwelcome force. A masked man holding braided rope and knife, clad in a striped shirt like a cartoon burglar. A door-to-door salesman with a pleasant grin but dark desires. At best, you end up tied to a chair with your flatscreen in the back of a van, and at worst…well, plenty of true crime mythos cover worst case scenarios.

So what of a tone invasion? A song can shatter our peace and ruin a trip to the drugstore with memories of a relationship that soured. Another can soothe our pain by reminding us that we’re not alone. Sounds too, it seems, have the power of an invader, with consequences both catastrophic and cathartic. This is what Laura Callier (AKA Gel Set) had in mind while recording her latest album. On Tone Invasion she harnesses that power, shining a flashlight inward and exposing the many traps the mind lays for us.

In keeping with the record’s theme, Callier invited an invader of her own into her recording process, asking Noah Anthony (AKA Profligate) to mix the album. It was the first time she’d brought in an outside collaborator for her solo work, and Callier was understandably hesitant. “I feared that if a male touched my songs, he'd end up getting all the credit, as sometimes happens in this world,” she explains. “Noah had my explicit instructions to only mix the album and not touch anything else, but to my chagrin I absolutely loved the other suggestions he had.” In the end, an outside perspective proved refreshing, and Anthony ended up co-producing and contributing original instrumentation to several songs.

No matter the song’s subject, it’s Callier’s deft command of these sonic interlopers that makes Tone Invasion so infectious. Her crystal-clear vocals add a sense of winking levity to the whole thing; assuring us that there’s still some fun to be had in darkness.

Check out the album's tracklist and watch the video for her new single "Next Exit", below.

New Entry: Gel Set Drops New Single/Video "It Has Come To Our Attention"

L.A-based electronic/electro-pop/minimal synth project Gel Set (aka multimedia artist Laura Callier), has dropped the video for her new single "It Has Come To Our Attention".

The song is out today (August 12) via 2MR. Buy it here.

Her first new release since 2017’s captivating Body Copy, “It Has Come To Our Attention” is a tongue-in-cheek rumination on media manipulation, power dynamics, and tacit misogyny. Over a pulsating, infectious bassline, a distorted authoritarian voice commands us to “Live, Laugh, Love” or die. In the accompanying video, directed by and starring Callier herself, two women are chased by a sinister off-camera assailant, culminating in their (apparent) demise. Between dance breaks, Callier asks us to consider the messages we internalize each day, and how we decide which ones to take seriously. It’s not mocking, to be sure - Gel Set’s dance floor is open to basic bitches, too.

Bdrmm Announce Debut LP 'Bedroom', Stream "Is That What You Wanted To Hear?"

Hull-based dream pop/psych/shoegaze band Bdrmm have announced the release of their highly-anticipated debut album 'Bedroom'.

The 10-track record was recorded late last year at the nave studio in leeds by alex greaves (working mens club, bo ningen) and mastered in brooklyn by heba kadry (slowdive, beach house), and will be out on on July 3, via Sonic Cathedral. Pre-order your copy here.

Musically, there are nods to The Cure's Disintegration, Deerhunter and DIIV, while the band reference Ride and Radiohead. There are also echoes of krautrock and post-punk, from The Chameleons to Protomartyr, plus the proto shoegaze of the Pale Saints' The Comforts Of Madness, not least in the cross fading of some tracks, meaning the album is an almost seamless listen. As a result, Bedroom becomes an unexpected and unintentional concept album, running through the different stages of a break-up set against the backdrop of the ups and downs of your early twenties.

"The subject matter spans mental health, alcohol abuse, unplanned pregnancy, drugs. Basically every cliché topic that you could think of," reveals frontman Ryan Smith. "But that doesn't mean they ever stop being relevant. it's a fucker growing up, but i'm lucky enough to have been able to project my feelings in the form of this band, surrounded by four of the best people i've ever met."
 .

Watch: Gel Set Airs Music Video For "Don't You Miss Me?"

L.A-based electronic/electro-pop/minimal synth project Gel Set (aka multimedia artist Laura Callier), has aired the video for "Don't You Miss Me?".

The song is taken from her latest album 'Body Copy', which came out in October via 2MR. Buy your copy here.

The video was created by Callier herself, who told The405"I will forever be influenced by the surreal works of Jodorowsky—the gorgeous, bizarre images of Holy Mountain forever burned into my brain; campy lo-fi horror movies; and the first music videos that mesmerized me as a child, most especially The Cars “You Might Think,” Tom Petty’s “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” and anything by Weird Al—with their ridiculous sense of humor, and a narrative campy colorful style I love. I approach both music and videos with things in mind—painting, humor, narrative, sexy—some pieces obviously lean more towards one concept than the other.”

New Entry: Gel Set Reveals New Song "Bounce"

L.A-based electronic/electro-pop/minimal synth project Gel Set (aka multimedia artist Laura Callier), has revealed her infectious new song "Bounce".

The song is taken from her forthcoming new album 'Body Copy', a psychedelic electro record. Laura's softly spoken, trance like vocals are accompanied by experimental bedroom production which includes a number of film samples and sound effects. It will be out on October 20th via 2MR, pre-order your copy here.

The record was born after a move from Chicago to LA to pursue sound design and post production. Callier came to find loneliness in this overpopulated city, searching for familiar faces at shows, stores, sidewalks. Strangers looked like variants of loved ones which helped Gel Set come to the realization that the world is full of body copies.

Have a listen to "Bounce" below.
