Foster The People Announce new EP, Stream "Under The Moon"
The 6-track EP was recorded by the band during COVID-19 quarantine and will be out on December 11th, it marks the band’s first release as independent artists. Pre-order your copy here.
Mark Foster words: “The last few years have been the most introspective and personally healing years of my life. I found something that I have been searching for since I was a teenager -- love. As a songwriter, I have always looked outward toward culture and the state of the world for inspiration. But as I searched for what this next era of Foster The People was going to sound like, I felt it was important to look inward this time and try to articulate what my love feels like. Every song on this EP is a different facet of the many layers of my love. Tension mixed with tenderness. Vulnerability contrasted with hope for the future. Heartache and separation anxiety offset by the truth that unconditional love leaves no room for fear. In some ways, writing about these things was a form of defiance to the fractured world around me. It was important for me to put the beautiful things swirling in my heart on display for the listener, as a reminder that these quiet virtues are what connects us as humans, no matter how loud our political ideologies may be. It feels to me like the world has forgotten its sense of magic. It seems to have forgotten that beauty, kindness, mercy and respect are the fabrics that hold us together, despite our differences. With In The Darkest Of Nights, Let The Birds Sing, I wanted love to be on full display.”

Speaking about it, Mark Foster says: “I wrote this song last year, unaware that the world was about to experience a major shift on many fronts. As I have done a lot of reflecting over the last few months, I feel a strong pull to put out music antithetical to the times we’re living in. Music has always been a great comforter in my darkest hours. We are donating 100% of the proceeds of this song to four charities we have chosen in support of our black brothers and sisters fighting for a better world. 25% is going to Black Lives Matter International. 25% to The Bail Project. 25% to Rebuild Foundation, and 25% to The Underground Museum. This song and the money it generates will go to these organizations forever as they continue to face new challenges with the ever evolving state of the world.”

Speaking about the track, frontman Mark Foster explains: "I think the quality that makes us distinctly human is our ability to live in duality. we comprehend the present external world we’re in, while having an internal dialogue about what it all means. we can be our own best friends. we can be our own mortal enemy. we can ski the alps in the peak of summer from under our bed covers at night. we can sail the high seas with Yeats and pick his brain about the afterlife in the holy city of Byzantium. we can fall in love with a stranger that passes us on the street; forming a complete history and future with a person we’ve never even spoken to. Our internal life is a universe, worthy to be explored and engaged. a dangerous place full of desires, undiscovered and unfulfilled. in our imagination we can escape our reality and create a new one."

Foster The People Announce New Album 'Supermodel', Stream "Coming Of Age"
California indie rockers Foster The People have officially announced they will released their sophomore album titled 'Supermodel' on March 14th via Columbia Records.
The album follows their debut 'Torches', which was released in 2011, and to give a first taste they're premiering the catchy lead single "Coming Of Age", accompanied with its video.
Speaking in 2012, frontman Mark Foster commented: "One thing about Foster The People is that it's taking pieces of a lot of different genres of music and kind of melding them together... This next record's going to be more evolved; it's going to be a clearer picture of what I've had in my head when it comes to that vision."

Foster The People Next Album Will Be 'More Evolved'
Foster The People frontman, Mark Foster, has revealed that his dance side-project will have an influence on the band's second album.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the singer/songwriter revealed that his Simms and Belle work with bandmate Isom Innis is helping to shape the sound of the follow up to the band's critically acclaimed Torches, he also cited West African music, David Bowie and the Clash as influences.
"It's all in there. We make a really heavily electronic hip-hop track and explore that world, [and] it's floating around in my brain the next time I write a Foster track. One thing about Foster the People is that it's taking pieces of a lot of different genres of music and kind of melding them together," he said.
"In the first record, I was looking at my vision for the project through a piece of opaque glass. This next record's going to be more evolved; it's going to be a clearer picture of what I've had in my head when it comes to that vision. Working on this project and getting deeper into electronic music is gonna help bring a deeper color in the next Foster record."
"Innis makes stuff a lot more in the electronic realm. He'll build foundational stuff for Smims and Belle and we'll come together while I'm doing foundational stuff for Foster the People," he added.
