Tallies Air New Single/Video "Memento"

Toronto dream pop/indie pop band Tallies have aired the video for their new single "Memento".

The song is taken from their forthcoming second full-length album 'Patina', which will be out on July 29th viaKanine Records (US), Hand Drawn Dracula (CA) and Bella Union (UK/EU). Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about it, Sarah of the band says: "I am a firm believer in “what goes down must come up,” people usually say the opposite, but this is a motto I’ve used throughout my life. When things aren’t going well, they have a tendency to bounce back. 'Memento', to me, is my pick-up song. When I sing “gotta get you on your way now”, I’m saying that it’s time to move on and move forward. I’ve had many moments in my life where I’ve lost momentum and felt directionless like I’d fallen into a black hole. It’s hard to crawl out of the hole and get back on track. I think there are a lot of people who spend their time thinking about how they need to get back on track. Listen to this song and remind yourself it’s time to look forward and lean into the future."

Watch: Tallies Release New Single/Video "Special"

Toronto dream pop/indie pop band Tallies have released the video for their new single "Special".

The song is taken from their forthcoming second full-length album 'Patina', which will be out on July 29th viaKanine Records (US), Hand Drawn Dracula (CA) and Bella Union (UK/EU). Pre-order your copy here.

Speaking about the band said: “‘Special’ is about longing to be seen and heard by those who matter to you most. Sometimes feeling invisible is particularly painful when the indifference comes from someone whose opinion means a lot to you.”

The juxtaposition of light and dark is a strong theme in the music of Tallies and certainly apparent once more with "Special" – another fine example of their gliding, shoegaze-adjacent jangle-pop reminiscent of The Sundays, Galaxie 500, Ride, etc. While many of their songs are upbeat, with Frankland’s breezy guitar lines drenched in reverb, soaring over Cian O'Neill’s propulsive drumbeats, Sarah’s lyrics can add a hint of shadow to even their most jangly tunes.

Tallies Announce New LP 'Patina', Stream "Hearts Underground"

Toronto dream pop/indie pop band Tallies have announced the release of their second full-length album 'Patina'.

The follow-up to 2019's self-titled album, was recorded with Holy Fuck member and Metz/Alvvays producer Graham Walsh plus the band’s own Dylan Frankland, it will be out on July 29th viaKanine Records (US), Hand Drawn Dracula (CA) and Bella Union (UK/EU). Pre-order your copy here.

The new record arrives as a true labor of love, one that was delayed due to the pandemic but ultimately is a truly rewarding collection for the band. It pricked the ears Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde – a hero of the band – who signed Tallies to his Bella Union label, providing "a light at the end of a dark tunnel" according to Sarah Cogan of the band.

Watch: Tallies Drop New Single/Video "Wound Up Tight"

Toronto dream pop/indie pop band Tallies have dropped their new single "Wound Up Tight" and its accompanying video.

The band have also shared the song “Heavens Touch”, both tracks are out now via Kanine Records (US), Hand Drawn Dracula (Canada) and Bella Union (UK/EU). Get it here.

“Wound Up Tight” continues to deliver on the promises that their debut record outlined pulling on the shoegaze / dream-pop tropes of Lush, The Sundays, Beach House, placing laser-focused guitar lines below washes of synth and electronics. Produced by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) and Dylan Frankland (Tallies) at Palace Sound, Baskitball 4 Life and Candle Recording in Toronto.

Speaking about “Wound Up Tight,” singer Sarah Cogan explains: “This song is about being stuck in a constant rotating vicious cycle that makes one want to tear their own hair out. It’s about a feeling towards someone who just doesn’t care enough to make a change.” When discussing “Heaven’s Touch,” Cogan explains: “This song is someone’s pleas for more love, more time, and more effort from their partner. They’re willing to do whatever it takes in exchange for more love.”

Watch: Tallies Return With New Single/Video "No Dreams Of Fayres"

Toronto dream pop/indie pop band Tallies have returned with their brand new single "No Dreams Of Fayres" and its accompanying video.

The song is out now through Bella Union (UK/EU), Kanine Records (US) and is the trio's first new material since their 2019 self-titled debut album. Get it here.

Produced by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) and Dylan Frankland of the band at Palace Sound, Baskitball 4 Life and Candle Recording in Toronto, "No Dreams of Fayres" documents singer, Sarah Cogan's battle with depression; the moments when she was trying to work it out but couldn't find the energy to do so.

Speaking about the new single, Cogan of the band says: "'No Dreams of Fayres' is a reflection of thoughts that I remember going through my mind when I stayed still in bed. Feeling as though staying still in bed was the only thing that would help the sadness – basically, disconnecting myself from family, friends, and having a life. Finding the way out of depression was hard but possible. 'No Dreams of Fayres' is also about the realization of letting yourself feel real feelings but not mistaking them for emotions. I had to learn to get a grip of what I wanted out of life and go for it with no self-sabotage – which was music, as cliché as it sounds. It pulled me out of bed, physically and mentally."
