Pixies Drop New Single/Video "Vault of Heaven"

Boston alt rockers Pixies have dropped the video for their new single "Vault of Heaven".

The song is taken from their eighth studio album 'Doggerel' will be out on September 30 via BMG. Pre-order your copy here.

Mixing dusky, Morricone-style desert noir atmospherics with a chiming, melodic guitar motif, ‘Vault of Heaven’ also takes a leftfield turn as flourishes of female backing vocals provide an almost hymnal touch. Black Francis’s lyrics combine elements that are both abstract and everyday in a surrealist narrative, in which the protagonist aims for salvation but only ends up falling flat on his face.

‘Vault of Heaven’ is released alongside an official video which brings its absurdist tale to life. It begins with a semi-clothed Zorro-esque figure who is heading into Los Angeles on the back of a toy horse. He arrives at a 7-Eleven, where things get stranger still with the help of bizarre Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe lookalikes. The visual was directed by the filmmaker and musician Charles Derenne.

High Vis Unveil New Single "Trauma Bonds"

London post punk band High Vis have unveiled their new single "Trauma Bonds".

The song is taken from their forthcoming sophomore album 'Blending', set to be released on September 9h via DAIS Records. Pre-order your copy here.

High Vis have exploded onto the DIY scene, earning a devoted following for their intense live shows and immediate lyrics that tackle themes from class politics to the challenges of everyday life. While their passion of hardcore stokes their fire, its post-punk’s textures and moods that line their sonic adventurousness, which suggests the members of High Vis are never going to be confined by any notion of what they should or shouldn’t be playing.

Quite possibly Blending's emotional centrepiece, the melodic jangle and impassioned vocals of 'Trauma Bonds' offer up an ultimately hopeful search for empathy and communication in the face of ongoing personal tragedy.

As front person Graham Sayle puts it, "‘Trauma Bonds' was written after the news of another tragic suicide of one of our friends during lockdown. It forced us to reflect on how the death of young people had become so normalised within our group of friends that we had become numb to it. Friendships became Trauma Bonds and the gravity of these situations suppressed through toxic coping mechanisms. The song is a hopeful exploration into these feelings in an attempt to support each other through better communication and collective empathy."

The video features a football scarf made by the political art collective Partisan Social Club, Mel Jordan and Andy Hewitt which states 'Make All Capitalists Labourers'. The video also features footage and images from the 'Flip Video' camera taken during touring and recording the records between 2009-2015.
