Norway bedroom pop/indie pop/rock three-piece Chain Wallet have announced the release of their sophomore album titled 'No Ritual'.
The follow-up to 2016's self-titled debut album includes their catchy new single "Ride", and will be out February 15th on Jansen Records. Pre-order your copy here.
No Ritual found them emerging to a small cabin on a remote beach in the southwest of Norway. Here, among surfers – and while walking the beaches, drinking wine – they found out what kind of album they were going to make.
While you still can catch a glimpse of Mary Chain here or Johnny Marr there, Chain Wallet are really establishing their own musical identity with No Ritual. Playing an important part in expanding the band’s sound on this record is Chiara Cavallari of the psychedelic shoegaze band FOAMMM. The guys say: “We had been wanting to collaborate with Chiara for a long time, and her ethereal presence is fortunately scattered all over the album.”
Both of Chain Wallet’s albums have followed loose and murky storylines about a conflicted protagonist. Where the first album revolved around themes like unresolved ambition and attempts of letting go of the past, No Ritual finds our anti-hero in state of spiritual limbo, while reaching out and trying to establish new symbolic meanings. The album is a post-apocalyptic dive into the mythical life of the millennial mind.

About the record, the duo say: “The album is about the feeling of standing on the edge of something high up and getting the urge to jump, it’s not necessarily about a death wish, more, paradoxically, it’s about wanting to live and how the mind has strange ways of expressing that. We felt like it’s a really accurate reflection of what we want to achieve musically - some of what we create could be seen as being quite dark thematically, but there’s a positivity to what we do, there’s a light there even in the darkness, and we want to uncover and explore that.”

Los Angeles electronic/ambient artist Geotic (aka Baths' Will Wiesenfeld side-project) has premiered the video for his catchy new single "Gondolier".
The song is taken from the upcoming album 'Traversa', out October 19. Pre-order your copy here.
"Gondolier" explores the concept of misunderstandings within a relationship, that can lead to jarring ends. As with the remainder of the album, Wiesenfeld is singing on "Gondolier" about the relationship of travel and adventure as something occasionally isolating, while maintaining a sense of exploration within those feelings of loneliness. Sonically, it boasts a simple, repetitive melody to nautically themed lyrics referencing boats, docks, and lighttowers, like what happens when ships pass in the night with no awareness of each other. Those lyrics build tension with each new verse: "I caught you where the boats get tied/ Off to live a different live/ I knew, I felt myself get angry," Wiesenfeld sings, accusatory and betrayed in one verse, before growing sadder and more internal in the next: "I caught you where the boats sail off/ Like you tied me to the dock/ I fold, I felt the world desert me."
The video was directed by Will Wiesenfeld, Mario Luna and Shannon Pollak.. Watch it below.
Cardiff noise pop/psych band Perfect Body have dropped their new single "Fields".
Perfect Body formed in early 2017, inspired by the sonic experimentation of bands like My Bloody Valentine, Stereolab, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Their sound is characterized by it’s noisy, psychedelic guitar playing; icy, ethereal synthesizers; and a muscular, yet dynamic rhythm section. Perfect Body is a wall of noise, hazing over and obscuring what is, at it’s core, pop-oriented songwriting.
It is taken from their upcoming split EP with Zac White, out on November 23 via Bubblewrap Collective (digitally on October 12). Stream it below.

The song is taken from their upcoming debut album 'Character Building', set to arrive in October 12th. We have previously heard the record's first single "I Want You Around".
Speaking about it, band member Eoin Rooney said: "We had the music for this song kicking around for quite a while, but the lyrics came after a young black kid was killed by a police officer in our area of London. The officer thought he swallowed a suspicious package and chased him down. You know the rest… Meanwhile on the same streets, middle class white people walk around every weekend with suspicious packages in their pockets, suspicion free. That pisses me off. So I wrote a song about it."
