About the clip, band member Dan Whitford said: "The clip for Black Rainbows plays on the themes for our album “Haiku From Zero” of information overload, throwing together disparate styles and subject matter to create something new. It’s an unconventional clip for us because instead of finding a director, we worked with an animator, Annapurna Kumar who has never made a music video before. I had seen some short clips of her work online, and we told her just go crazy and make whatever she wanted. I think the end result is equal parts overwhelming and aesthetically pleasing… much like the digital world we inhabit."

Speaking about the album synth player and producer Dom Brennan said: “The whole process was very improvised. We hired some microphones for £100, borrowed a sound card from a friend and used every channel that still worked on my old mixing desk. On another occasion we got some discounted studio time through a friend, so we blitzed through some drum tracks in a session before finishing the tracks elsewhere. It was a little bit unorthodox, but we couldn’t do it any other way.”
