Big Country To Release New Album 'The Journey' Next Month

Scottish band Big Country have announce the release of their brand new studio album titled ‘The Journey‘ as well as a 14-date tour of the UK this April.

'The Journey' is Big Country's ninth studio album and their first since the sad and untimely death of lead singer and songwriter, Stuart Adamson in December 2001. It will be relased in April 9 via Cherry Red Records.

Recorded on the Welsh border town of Wrexham in an old cold war nuclear bunker, with 8-feet thick walls and no phone or internet signal, group members found themselves isolated and disconnected from the outside world, allowing for an interesting and productive time in the studio.

The 12-track album is released some two years after Big Country embarked on a new era, when guitarist and founder member Bruce Watson officially invited Mike Peters (The Alarm) to join them as lead vocalist for two concerts to celebrate 30 years since the group’s formation.

“It’s an album about hope and redemption,” says Bruce Watson. And from the opening chords of anthemic opener In A Broken Promise Land – a nod, stylistically at least, to Big Country’s early days when the songs he and Stuart Adamson conjured up felt like the equivalent of a Molotov cocktail being lobbed into the midst of ‘80s pop – it’s impossible to ignore the spirit of optimism that burns brightly throughout all 12 tracks of The Journey.

“There are themes of redemption and of coming to terms with a life lived all through this record, and the process has brought us together as a family united and ready to stand proud for what and who we are…..Big Country.” explains Mike Peters.

Mark Brzezick adds: “I am looking forward to the next Big Country chapter…. it feels right and fitting that Big Country continue the journey… and as Stuart always said, “When taking a journey, it’s not about the getting there, it’s enjoying the view on the way”.

Tracklist:
01. In a Broken Promised Land
02. The Journey
03. After the Flood
04. Hurt
05. Home of the Brave
06. Angels & Promises
07. Strong (All Through This Land)
08. Last Ship Sales
09. Another Country
10. Return
11. Winter Fire
12. Hail & Farewell

Heartworm Press will be releasing two Cold Cave singles in the coming months.

- The first 7″ is entitled ‘Black Boots‘ b/w ‘Meaningful Life.’ Pre-orders will begin for this in the next coming weeks. I’m proud to say I recently filmed a video for ‘Black Boots‘ with director Slava Tsukerman(Liquid Sky) which is being completed now. I want to thank Alexandre Plokhov of whom I am also a fan for providing my clothes for the video.

- The second release is a one song etched 7″ picture disc of ‘God Made the World.’ The digital version will be b/w the instrumental track ‘Dandelion.’ All of this new material is predominantly electronic and was written, performed and recorded by myself.

- The third pressing of ‘A Little Death To Laugh‘ 7″ will be available soon again via Heartworm Press.

Eisold also referred to Cold Cave's actual situation by stating:

"I have noticed and overheard some confusion as to what the status and future plans are for my music from people other than me. I am not under contract with a record label now. I’m happy with my new music that I’m making alone now. I am happy to have the opportunity to continue releasing songs and singles to you as I choose without being concerned with conventions for now. I am working on an album but I am always working on an album and have yet to decide when or who will release it.

There's more to share soon. Dates, releases. etc. For now, know my heart is extended to you for whom I do this for."

Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan Opens Up About His Infamous Overdose In 1996

In 1996, Depeche Mode frontman, Dave Gahan 'died' for two minutes when he overdosed on a speedball, which is heroin and cocaine combined.

In a recent interview, Gahan talked about how he felt at that time.

"The first thing I realised in the hospital was that I exited my body. I was floating underneath the ceiling and could observe exactly what was happening underneath me: Paramedics were running around my body and tried to save me. I screamed that I wasn’t actually lying down there but above them." He explained.

"I believe it was my soul screaming which had already left my body and became a witness of what happened to my body. At that point I was clinically dead, my heart wasn't beating. These seconds seemed like hours to me. And suddenly, there was a complete, frightening darkness around me. As if someone had turned off the light."

When he finally came around, the star woke up in handcuffs for being in possession of drugs. "When I woke up, I was tied to the bed with handcuffs. Policemen were standing in front of me and read my rights to me. I was arrested because of possession of cocaine and heroin."

"The court let me do a therapy. For about a year, I lived in a detoxification clinic with other drug addicts and alcoholics. I regularly had to do a urine test. If they had found a prohibited substance only once, I would have had to go to jail in Los Angeles for two years. I was really afraid of this. For the first time in my life, it became clear to me that I am not immortal." He added.

Watch: The Boxer Rebellion Unveil New Music Video "Diamonds"

The yet untitled new album is set for a release in later 2013. The song has been added to our current playlist www.kolrockradio.com.

Directed by Hand Held Cine Club, the clip features the band's frontman Nathan Nicholson as office worker  suffering a dead-end job and finding momentary escapism by way of a sudden free-fall flight through the air.  Shot over a three-day period in the North of England, the team built an office space inside an empty shell of a building, worked with free-base skydivers in sub-zero temperatures, and plunged into ice cold water to capture a stark and emotive narrative adventure fitting to the song's message.

Depeche Mode Reveal They Turned Down Brits Lifetime Achievement Award

Depeche Mode have said they were offered a BRIT award, but their segment wouldn't be broadcast.

Speaking to The Sun at their video shoot for 'Soothe My Soul', frontman Dave Gahan started off saying "Fuck the Brits", then he explained what had happened between Depeche Mode and Brits organisers:

"I will probably get someone in trouble, but we were told we were getting a new award this year. Most Influential Band In The Last 20 Years or something? Basically the old bastard, Lifetime Achievement Award and we said, 'Yes that’s cool'. Then we heard through the grapevine ITV wouldn't broadcast our segment. So we said, 'If they won’t play us on air, then we’re not going to be their most influential band."

"How many other bands have had as many hits as us worldwide and been around for as long? Fuck them then and bollocks to it." He added.

Gahan also spoke about his past alcoholism, saying that it used to be more difficult for him to avoid drinking (the star 'died' for two minutes in 1996 when he overdosed on a speedball, which is heroin and cocaine combined).

"It was difficult as we were on the road and that’s always difficult to avoid drinking," he said. "I just got to a point where I knew if I carried on then I wouldn't be alive for much longer. I was drinking all day — literally getting up and drinking with breakfast.

"I’m just thankful some of the madness missed the age of smartphones. Back in the day when I was drinking and out of control I would have been all over YouTube. Just for the fun of it I’d just get naked in hotel bars. Can you imagine doing that now?". He finished

Depeche Mode will release their 13th studio album Delta Machine in the UK on March 25 and a day later in the US.

Echo & the Bunnymen To Release New Album 'The Garden of Meedin'' This Year

Echo and the Bunnymen have announced they will release their twelfth studio album, 'The Garden of Meedin' later this year.

In a recent interview, frontman Ian McCulloch said that he and long-time sparring partner Will Sergeant are heading back into the studio in the summer to record their follow-up to 2009’s The Fountain.

"I’m just trying to get a start before I get together with Will," the singer says. “It’s worked the same way for a long time - since the split, and with Pete [De Freitas, original drummer] and Les [Pattinson, original bassist] not being around. All those days of rehearsal rooms used to get on my nerves – three hours of headache, earache, until I realised it was much better just to be in Yates Wine Lodge for three hours while they made a racket."

“It’s more like the early stuff with loads of spiky guitars and space. But as much as this is reminiscent of the past, it feels dead new to me. There’s loads of space on there and it just unwinds during the course. I like that about us, things like [1981 single] ‘Over The Wall’ – it sounds like a journey. A lot of that was down to Will.” McCulloch explained.

“It sounds fantastic. It’s just a different kind of ambition. The idea is to make the greatest album we’ve ever made. I always go into things thinking that anyway. I’ve spent the last 10 years trying to see where I could go with my voice and if I could write some bridges. Then I looked back and realised we never had any bridges.” He added.

There's no release date, album artwork, tracklist, or anything yet, but we'll keep you updated.

'The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone' Documentary To Be Released In June

The Stone Roses documentary 'Made Of Stone' will open in British cinemas on Wednesday 5 June following a premiere in the group's hometown on Thursday 30 May.

The film was made by This Is England director Shane Meadows and goes behind the scenes on the Manchester band's 2012 reunion, from the early stages to their celebratory hometown gigs at Heaton Park.

A premiere for the film, with all members of the band in attendance, will take place in Manchester on May 30 with a number of fans who attended last year's Warrington Parr Hall and Heaton Park gigs who are featured in the film receiving tickets to the premiere in Manchester. Black Sabbath Reveal Details Of '13', Release Video Clip From The Studio

Ozzy, Tony and Geezer have announced details of Black Sabbath's new studio album '13', which will be out on June 11.

The band also released a video clip featuring the band and producer Rick Rubin discussing the work, along with just enough of the new music offered as a tease. Rubin, in particular, was very enthusiastic about working with the rock legends. "Getting to come to work every day and hearing Black Sabbath play," he said. "It stimulates something in me, just like when I was 14 years old…That same thing gets turned on, and it's a really good feeling."

The video was directed by Ozzy's son, Jack. Watch it below.

'13' is now available via www.blacksabbath.com on a variety of formats, including:

David Bowie's 'The Next Day' Number 1 On UK Album Chart

Congratulations to David Bowie for his ninth #1 album in the UK!

The Official Charts Company in the UK has just announced that David Bowie's The Next Day has entered the album chart straight in at NUMBER ONE!

Bowie has scored his first number one album in 20 years with a record that is also the fastest selling of the year so far. The Next Day racked up 94,000 sales this week, beating Biffy Clyro's Opposites which sold 71,600 copies in its opening week in January.

While excitement and critical acclaim of the latest Bowie album grow, the big question is whether or not we will see a 66-year-old Bowie on stage. The star's album producer and long-time studio collaborator Tony Visconti has previously rubbished reports that the singer could tour.

"He made that very clear to the label that he wasn't going to tour or do any kind of ridiculously long album promotion," he said in January. "I spoke to him two days ago and he said, 'I'm really adamant I'm not gonna do a tour.' And he said, 'If I might, I might do one show.' But who knows when?"

But Bowie's wife, businesswoman and model Iman Abdulmajid, appeared to hint that a tour might be on the cards in an interview to a magazine journalist last week, saying: "We have a 12-year-old [daughter, Alexandria] in school, so we are stuck, we can't travel. Our schedule is around her, so I don't know. We'll have to go visit him, but we won't be on tour with him because she's in school."

UPDATE 18/03David Bowie's 'The Next Day' #1 for first time on German Chart!

Sony Germany report that David Bowie‘s The Next Day has entered the album chart there straight in at number one. His previous best being Let’s Dance, which reached #2 in 1983.

Empire Of The Sun Announce Long Awaited New Album 'Ice On The Dune'

Empire of the Sun have announced via their Facebook page that they will release their long awaited new album titled 'Ice On The Dune' on June 2013 via EMI.

The electronic pairing, now referred to as "Emperor Luke Steele" and "Lord Nick Littlemore", announced their return with a teaser video called 'Discovery'. In this latest installment, according to a press release, “Emperor Steele and Lord Littlemore face an unprecedented challenge in their bid to restore peace to the world, 1,000 years into the future."

The duo elaborates further in the album's "introductory chapter":

"Once, the world was pure. It was the Emperor and the Prophet who kept it thus. Each day, they charted the sun’s course across the sky, guided rivers down from mountain peaks, brought rains to quench raging fires.

With the aid of their four priests, who possessed spirits of wild animals, they traveled the world tirelessly, maintaining nature’s delicate balance, allowing all things to grow and flourish — always with the aid of the sacred jewel held atop the Emperor’s crown…

But one night, as the Emperor slumbered, recovering from his labors, true darkness appeared. The King of Shadows, ever the bitter foe of the Empire, and all it had achieved, crept into their temple. Craving the Emperor’s power, he stole the jewel from his crown– and in an instant the world was changed.

Robbed of the bulk of his power, the Emperor and the Prophet watched helplessly as their temple was torn asunder, and their priests cast far out into the world.

But even in that moment, when all appeared lost, there was one thing that the King of Shadows’ black heart simply could not have imagined…The Emperor and the Prophet had never abandoned hope."

Check out the album's epic video trailer below. The untitled new single, you can hear a few seconds at the end of the video, is expected to be released later this month.

ADULT. Announce New Album 'The Way Things Fall'

Detroit's electro-punk outfit ADULT., have announced they will release their new album 'The Way Things Fall' on May 14th through Ghostly.

The duo, comprised by Adam Lee Miller and Nicola Kuperus released their last album Why Bother? in 2007, since then, they've been very busy with other creative projects - including the completion of three films, building renovation, and visual art/photography. "After a long world tour, we totally burnt out," Miller relates. "We decided we wanted to do something completely different."

Last year ADULT. headed back to the studio to record two tracks for a 12", there was no intention of making another album, but it turned out that the time away from music had recharged ADULT.'s batteries, and they ended up putting together a full album.

The result is a record that sounds both focused and coherent, flowing with a conceptual ease. "[The album] flowed efficiently and agreeably for us," says Miller. "We have never worked better together. We believe this is because we exorcised all of our demons through our past records, we have no baggage, we started a new. We left behind the self-conscious adolescents.

The duo revealed "Idle (Second Thoughts)", the first taste of the album, a few days ago and it's now part of our current playlist. Listen below.
